Default Portland area Sturgeon Report 1/3

What a great day on the river. Calm wind, hardly no wet stuff falling from the sky, having most of the river to yourself, and oh yea...... lots and lots of fish.

The fish are big and fresh once you find them. We ended up with two keepers that were released and too many shakers to count. The bite was real light on the main stem Columbia. I don't see how you guys with the sword fish sticks catch fish when the water is this cold. Salmon gear and 4 ounces of weight pitched way back was killer today.

Mr. and Mrs. Dipnet- Hope you guys had fun at the boat show. We dropped hook where you suggested on the way back in for about an hour. That place was full of fish that were hammering the bait compared to the bite out on the big river. Erica nailed a big un that we released in that spot. See you guys next weekend

Great Job! Oh yeah, I'd sure like to know where abouts on the columbia your pitchin 4 ounces of lead and holding bottom. Maybe on incoming, but the outgo?????? I fished yesterday running as light a gear as a guy would want, salmon rods 50 pound tuff line etc.. And even then on the outgo needed 12 ounces of lead. and that was with a long cast and some back bouncin. Caught fish though.

I was and always fish the ebb tide. We had a weak tide this morning and four ounces with 30 pound braid pitched way back holds just fine. If you beg to differ than fish next to me sometime and see for yourself. I never use more than eight ounces. I do not fish near St. Helens but upriver from Frenchmans bar up to the I-5 bridge, the current is a little less than what you guys are fishing in. That is the part of the Columbia I fish in I have been doing this a while....
