Lost My Mojo?
I'm working on a serious skunk here. I usually go once a month. My October trip to Eagle Creek was a bust. The coho run didn't show up like it has in the past. People were bemoaning that fact here. In November, I hit the Salmon River. Lost three fish, landed none. In December, I took my boys to the Alsea, we got three bobber downs, no hookups. This morning I went to Three Rivers. Water was crystal clear. I got one hard strike, but no hookup. Then the water clarity started to go down considerably. I have no idea what was in the water, but after the water started clouding up, and nothing was biting for two hours, I decided I'd be better off elsewhere. The water was still clear at the Castle Rock campground, but not on the lower river. I had thoughts of hitting the Big Nestucca or the Little Nestucca, but I had a hankering for greenling or seabass for dinner, so I drove to Boiler Bay instead. I got one itty bitty sub-legal greenling, and that was it. So apart from that and losing fish, I've been basically fishless since the first week in October, when I got my three-year old (now four) into his first fish, and then handed mine off to him to reel in.
Perhaps I'm rushing myself, because I've gotta be back in time for my wife to go to work? Nah, just an excuse. Perhaps it is my lack of pre-fishing superstitious good luck ritual?
It's certainly better to get skunked than not to go fishing, and better to hook and lose than not to hook at all, and better to get a tiny fish than none at all, and it was a nice day, but.....
Hmmmm.
Statistical anomoly? Lasting negative trend? I certainly hope my February trip goes better. If this continues, I'm going to start thinking there is something seriously wrong. :depressed:

Re: Lost My Mojo?
sounds like a clear case of Mojo loss, happens to me sometimes. However, I know how to reverse the trend, you have to buy your fishing buddies breakfast, be the first one to pitch in on gas, and bring something special on the boat, ....you'll have the hot rod!

Re: Lost My Mojo?
happybrew,
Now I've got it figured out.............your mojo and MY mojo are hanging out together and screwing off when they should be providing us with some love.
My mojo isn't working that well this year either. :depressed:

Re: Lost My Mojo?
Did somebody call for some Mojo???
Keep trying. A fish never bites a dry hook.
Try some positive attitude.
Learn something new each trip.
Try new spots. Do something out of the ordinary.
Kick back and have a brew.

Re: Lost My Mojo?
WArning, these guys are a danger to Mojo enhanced I-fishers. Avoid at all costs.
Ya see Happybrew the stress you were feeling at your other job sent negative vibrations down the rod and into the water causing an anti mojo l-serin to seep into the water undetected by a fine person such as yourself. Since you now have a new job the cure has been found and only you, your rod, bait and waders are holding the fish back. Try and try again. it will happen oh yeah. it will.

Re: Lost My Mojo?
You're getting bites! Sharpen your hooks.
Hooks and mojo are inexplicably intertwined.

HB
You being a believer, not having a good luck ritual is a good thing. Luck (LUX) was an Egyptian god from what I can remember so thats going in the wrong direction. Just ask Jesus to bless you with a good day fishing and maybe a fish or two. Works for me.

Re: Lost My Mojo?
Dan, we need to kick our mojos in the pants and get them back to work! Do mojos wear pants? What exactly does a mojo look like anyway? If Fish Mojo's avatar is to be believed, we need to get some penguins.
Karma, since my fishing buddies are my kids, I always buy the breakfast, the tackle, the bait, the gas, etc. So I don't think that's what it is.
C&E, I think it might be an ifish skunk virus, and by responding to this post, you're computer may be infected. I hope either you have a good firewall on your machine, or you wear latex gloves while you type. Preferably two pairs of latex gloves. And polarized glasses, so you don't get infected through your monitor as well.
LS- with the lost fish, I think it was the trebles. Maybe a siwash on my lures would do better.
Hogback- the Egyptians are not known as outstanding anglers, so whoever Lux is, he's probably pretty worthless for fishing. I always thought that "luck" was a pre-Christian Gaelic and Celtic thing, that was thought to permeate the world, and could be manipulated by various objects and rituals. Never heard of the Egyptian God.
At any rate, it was a beautiful day. The ocean was beautiful. I saw some bright steelhead in a tailout on Three Rivers when I first got there. Unfortunately, the fog from my breath was obscuring my view, and I lost my visual fix on them when I tried to cast their way, upstream. Probably ended up spooking them, because I couldn't find them again.

Re: Lost My Mojo?
I wouldn't worry too much, hb, my mojo never seems to take too long a break. When it comes back around, like it always seems to, I'll tell it to tell YOUR mojo to get back on the stick.
