Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
I just got told today that our '99 needs a tranny rebuild at 115,000 miles. Don't know what that is going to cost. Other than this, the car has been great. Legacy Outback.

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
Very good cars, and in the used market they are alot of car the money. If you own one now you can expect the same, and the newer they get the better they get. I have not seen any with major mechanical problems to speak of. If you want a AWD model, Subaru has a excellent system.
Good luck !!
How about my decals ? RODACTION.........Aka, Ken

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
G.B.S.
We have a 99 outback legacy 5sp, and all the bells they offered, no sun roof, didn't want one anyway (leak)
We have some where around 100k on it, and we have never been happier, starts up in the cold and the a/c keeps you cool in the summer.
Our next car for the wife well be a new one.
And they hold there $$$$$
Good Car, buy one of the newer ones, with the boxer engine and they get up and go.

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
I owned a 1998 Subaru Outback Sport Wagon and chose the manual. The car was awsome. I drove 18 hours staight a couple of times and would not get sore or fatigued from driving the car. I also found that I never wanted for power. The car handled great in all weather conditions with the AWD and four channel ABS. Just before getting a different vehicle, I was involved in a bad accident while driving the Subaru. I stronly feel that, that car saved my life. I walked away from the accident with minor abrasions thanks to the cars safety features and low center of gravity. The whole car was destroyed, except for the roof and a few windows. The only reason I do not own one now is you can't carry a camper. That would be my .02....

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
My wife rolled hers in Calif., she had the cruise control set at 70 mph and fell asleep, the car rolled over 2 1/2 times landed on its roof in the oppiosite lane, skidded on its roof for a long distance. She had her son and grandaughter in the car with her and the only injury was when my wife undid her seat belt she lit on her head! The car, a 2000 Outback wagon was totaled. The good thing was after getting our insurance settlement money we purchased a new 2004, just exactly like it using only $2000 out of our own pockets.I have owned a 88,90,96 and am currently a 95 for my run around fishing car and have never ever had a problem with them, and each one had over a 100,000 on them when I bought them. So I say go for it!!

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
We just upgraded our '92 Legacy AWD wagon to a 2005 Forester.
I intended to buy one that was two or three years old, but the price spread between new and one with 50k miles and little or no warranty just didn't justify buying used.
I was skeptical that the 2.5l/auto tranny/AWD combo would be pepply enough and considered the turbo model, but that one requires premium fuel. And it turns out the 2.5 goes plenty fast off the line, and cruises at 70mph -- I'm always finding myself well above the speed limit.
The '05 LLBean edition was $23,700 at Wentworth Subaru.

Re: Subaru's 1999-2003
Subaru update. I ended up with a really sweet 2001 outback.
Great condition. I'm not one for buying from a dealer, but thanks to SPAZZ (Brian), I had a good experience, was treated right, and not only left with a great car, but unloaded my old subaru also. Thanks SPAZZ for the hook up!
I owe ya one!
