Default Shad in the Willamette

I want to know if anyone knows how far up the river system of the Willamette the shad travel? Do they pass the falls at Oregon City? I live in Salem and have never heard of anyone fishing for them up here...just wondering.

Cim.........your gonna have to wait awhile to get them above the falls! They wont come to our neighborhood. Go down below the falls to target them!

This question comes up every year and seems logical, but shad are funny critters. They don't like to pass through an enclosed ladder such as that at Willamette Falls. In other words, they won't swim through a pipe. Consequently, the Willamette shad fishing is restricted by the fishes' nature to only the lower river.

'Hope that helps to clarify.
