Default Sauvie Island Phesant Report 9/19

Did the "afternoon hunt", 3-6 PM - a lot toughter than the morning hunt. 4 shells expended for no birds down. The area seeemed to have been picked pretty clean by the morning hunters. Both birds we put up were in heavy cover.

On the plus side - no crowds, only saw one other hunter up close and a couple guys in the far distance. Heard at least 20 other shots fired, so there was some shootin goin on.

Summary, hunt the heavy cover - especally cattails and swampy areas on a afternoon hunt, be prepared to bust some brush, Im sure we would have put up more birds if we had hit the heavy stuff right off the bat. Birds are sittin real tight, no runners, good points for the dog. (unless you lose him on a point in the 6' tall elephent grass / cattail mix)

UG, shhhhh.
Last year I went to a public area that had a .2 bird average for the opening weekend. I went in on Wed and went up to my boot tops in mud and well over my head in cattails. Limited in 15 minutes. Hint: Bullet proof Filson pants

Howdy Ifishers, I have a 6 month old GWP who is doing a wonderful job pointing and some retrieving, but he has a great nose and holds really well, I'm from washington and was curious if anyone would be interested in letting me and my pup come along to get him on some pheasants before we head east in a couple weeks. I dont have a out of state license so I would just be working my dog. Sounds like he could get a good chance of getting on some birds at suavies. I have most week days off so if anyone is interested you can call me 360 430 9857. Erik

Hunted from 3-6 today. Didn't see any birds. Hunted the heavy brush, cattails. Did manage 4 doves. Overall good to get the dog out. Looking forward to the hunt next year to get my new pup out. Also, I never knew there was a nude beach by the north side. Driving down that road witnessed 4 nakes peoples cross the road. Thought they were crazy locals, but a sign 1/4 mile down the road answered by questions "Collins beach, optional clothes" was a great/funny/tramatising day lol
