Default Crappie on Hagg.

OK I was told this rumor several years ago when I moved here that Hagg Could Produce some crappie.

5 years later, I'm still trying to find these "Fish".

I have fished both on shore and bank and have tried several techniques known to kill the crappies..
Anyone heading out for Crappie or Blue gill On Hagg? Care to share some tips? Care to ride along in the boat and offer some tips?

Snowball,

The rumors are true. I've caught Crappie while fishing for Bass at The Hagg. They have hit small Rapallas, 2" black worms, and miscellaneous in-line spinners (rooster tails, Mepps Algias). Always seem to locate them in the coves where there is lots of cover.

As to the Bluegill - rumor I hear is that the Oregon Bass & Panfish club hold a Bluegill Fishing Derby for kids every year at Hagg - and they catch hundreds. Might be worth inquiring with them as to your best practice for Bluegill.

As for your offer to haul an extra bass knucklehead around in your boat - shoot me an email! Mayhaps we can hook up!

Best Regards,

I have fished Hagg for several years now and have never seen a crappie caught. As far as the blue gill go there are tons of them. Many times when the bass bite is slow I will break out the fly rod and fish for the blue gills. I have found that just about any small nymph pattern will work well. The best color I found there is olive green. This also holds true for the trout. Best fishing for blue gills has been on the east side of the lake back up in the coves. Once landing 27 blue gill on 27 casts. Good luck!

It's been a few years, but I saw a guy catch quite a few nice crappie right off boat dock A. Mostly around the boat house that the sheriffs use. Like I said it's been a while, but they are there. Good luck.

When I was just starting to fish out here my parents took me out to hagg so they could go skiing (and I wanted no part of skiing when I can fish!). I just came out with a few rooster tail spinners and a bobber with a few live worms. Caught a bunch of both blue gill and crappie, of course had to weed out between the perch. This was pretty much around boat ramp C on foot and most places were really accessable.
