Default Wilson-Trask spring bear

I have a tag for spring bear out in the Wilson-Trask units. I chose that hunt because it is closest to me and I figured I would be able to make it out hunting a lot more than if I was hunting elsewhere. I have only been able to get out 2 times so far. I know that is part of my problem, but I noticed that the success rate for this hunt is about (if not) the lowest in the state. I believe the success rate last year was 4%. I can see why. It is a jungle over there. The trees are so thick, there is no way you could go tromping through there and see anything, definately not a bear. I am disappointed in the clear-cuts I have seen. Many of them are just expanses of nothing. No growth to speak of, and I can't hardly imagine a bear being out there. There is much more to feed on in the trees than out there. So I am a little stumped. Any ideas to increase my chances? I would rather be doing this by June 15th than Thanks for the help!!

Think steep rocky open faces with brush on them. Glass from the other side.

I've also been out only a few times. Yes the clearcuts in the east part of the unit are disappointing. I have found a lot of sign in the berry patches and on the roads leading through them. One possiblity is to walk these closed roads early mornings and late evenings. I think one reason for the low success rate is the volume of people these woods receive along with what you mentioned, lots of food available in the woods. Try and find the out of the way areas. I would like to get out more but we are in the middle of the moving process right now. Good luck. I'm watching the bear loose in Scappose right now, that kind of figures.

I am not familiar with the area you are hunting, but here in Washington there is nothing for them to eat in the clearcuts. The bears are in the thick & nasty eating Doug Fir, young devil's club, skunk cabbage, etc. Try to find clearings in the thick stuff and use a predator/calf/fawn call.
