Default Hunting in Ochoco

This is the first year I have gotten a tag to deer hunt in Eastern OR. I have no idea where the best place or even a good place to go in Ochoco area. Is there anyone who could offer some help as to where to go ?

Camp between Rager Ranger Station and Big Summit Praire. Lots of nice bucks in area but lots of road closures so must walk into them

That whole unit holds some real nice deer. Ad11 was right about the roads. But that makes for some nice solitude hunting. Weather will be a big factor as it will more than likely be hot. Early morning and late evening and nap during the hot part of the day. My preference would be the high country. If you are hunting alone try some real early morning stand hunting. Find a well use trail and watch it. Good Luck

Hey Surejam, I'll be hunting Ochoco for the first time this rifle season. Maybe you and I should compare notes after the first weekend. I'm heading to a different area, so we'll be looking at some different country. Good luck!

Hey Guys,
I hunted up there this week for Archery Elk, I was on the road from Paulina over I think its #42, I headed acros the mountains on road #12. I was about half way across where I was hunting, anyway... There are alot of deer in there this year, I say 30+ Deer in about 2 days, 13 bucks 1 herd of 5 and another of 7 and 1 by itself, Nothing real big, but a couple fair 4x4s soyou guys should have a pretty good hunt! If you guys want the precise area email me and I will get my map out and try to get it for ya, not real sure it was my first timeup there I just picked a good looking spot and headed in!
