Horsetail Falls today
It was shaker city using smelt and squid today. We moved around a few times to find the action. On the last set, there were so many little ones we were considering pulling anchor and moving again, but decided to stay put and have a bite of lunch first. Right at 12:05 and 12:15 these twins came onboard.
Water temp is up to 56. They're out there!
On another note, the barge captains were busy today blowing horns. Some folks just don't seem to understand, when in doubt - move.
Did anyone else out there notice that?

Re: Horsetail Falls today
Nice Keepers!
Same story for us, shaker city so we moved around a bit. Came back to our spot and it had been invaded by keeper fish! We had our two in 30 minutes 46 & 47. Lost two others with some size and released a 42.
Yes the people in the channel were really pushing it today. We saw two boats that didnt pull til the last minute and made the barge throttle way down and almost stop. The barge operator had some choice words for them on the radio.
I know some pepople dont really know where the channel is, but when a barge is pointed your way and blaring its horn, its time to move
Man what a beautifil day out there today.....

Re: Horsetail Falls today
ripnlips,
Too bad you were out of town last week. You missed a good meet-n-greet with the Tigard area I-fishers. I'll call you and we'll go put the hurt on some gators.

Re: Horsetail Falls today
Nice fish Dave! Looks like a couple of twins. Do you fish the flats side of the channel or closer to the falls? How many smelt do you go through in a day?

Re: Horsetail Falls today
Jim,
The flats weren't producing for us, so we moved over by the falls and fished the southern edge of the channel.
I usually take at least 3 dozen smelt per rod, plus a couple dozen squid. I defrost some the night before, and then throw in some frozen stuff in the morning. If we don't use it all, it's still cold enough to go back in the freezer for another day.

Re: Horsetail Falls today
sturgeonator,Nice fish! what kind of boat were you in? I was there saturday on the washington side halfway between horsetail and the fishery, we had 2 keepers in the boat also, I have a red jetcraft with ifish stickers on the side, I saw a red northriver with ifish stickers and was wondering if that was you.

Re: Horsetail Falls today
Mr. D,
I have a blue 18' Jetcraft. I saw your post late Friday night, and was looking for you but didn't spot you. Glad to hear you got some too.
What a great day it was weather-wise. There's nothing like the Gorge scenery with the low clouds and fog shrouding the hills like that. Staying dry is just a bonus.
