Default The Gun Room

I just had to share my experience and opinion regarding the Gun Room in Portland. I am in the market for a new left handed rifle and am checking lots of makes, models, prices, etc. I am looking for a .270. Against my better judgement, I called the gun room for there costs on Remingtons, since that is all they carry. There price for the .270 LH BDL was $705. NW Armory and Fishermans are carrying the same gun for $549. $150 more??? Then the guy procedes to tell me that I full of sh$t regarding my other costs. Then he rants on how I am a fool for ever owning a browning rifle. IMHO my browing shots as wells or better than any remington I have ever owned. So..... if you are shopping guns at the Gun Room, check your prices and enjoy the great customer service.

They do have very high prices and a unique way of serving their customers. Scares me to death. I'm ashamed i own a Benelli.

They really have opinion about everthing. What ever they sell at the moment is the best on the market and what you are shooting will "bow up on you" according the experts there.

They do have a great selection so if want to see some selection and hear lots of opinions it is the place to go. like they say, we teach shooting and cost should not matter.

You know what they say about opinions...

Can't agree more with there poor attitudes and arrogance. I went there to look and price some rifles and the jerks told me they didn't think I knew what I was looking for and to come back when I was serious.!! They can all pound sand for all I care and I'll never recomend them to any one.

Ya know this struck a chord with me.
One the gun room has been that way since I was a kid.Never gonna change. But what really gets me is this is something about the firearms business that is real strange. It's the only business where you go to spend a large sum of money(hey a grand don't buy a higher end gun with scope.Heck it don't even buy a higher end gun!)and the owner of the business treats you like crap. This is not the only establishment that has insulted me or my intelligence.I am to the point that I buy reloading stuff thru the gun clubs rep,and guns from another fella at the gun club.Only based this on price, because customer service and even an effort to be polite and kind is not there. So I buy from the cheapest guy and don't expect much in return.
End of rant.
Mark and the dog.

Flatfish,

You hit the nail on the head...

I'll buy the same shotgun from wallmart before I'd ever buy a gun from the "Gun Room".

He must have some loyal customers though, and good for him if he can keep them with his pompus a$$ attitude he has. He told me that my "cheap chain-store mossberg" was going to blow up in my face any day so I better had buy one of his 800 dollar blah, blah, blah blah............

You get the idea. Never mind I've killed every thing from doves to bucks with that old "inferior piece of $h!t" I refuse to spend any of my money in his shop. If he can still make a living with his attitude, he must have someone fooled..... But not me.

If you want a laugh, shop at the gun room.... He thinks it's the arrow that makes the kill not the indian. But only if it's the right brand of arrow

What a joke. He was promoting Tungsten shot for ducks before it was federally approved for waterfowl. I called him on that one, and his only response was...... It's not magnetic, so just tell them it's bismuth.....What a crock!

Screw Warren, and the GUN ROOM!

I got a good laugh when I read this one! I went in there a few years ago asking about a left handed 30-06. He shows me this Remington for $1500 and tells me my Ruger is a piece of $%$, and how I'm going to regret ever owning one when I miss that trophy elk. Well that Ruger has seen two bulls, used three bullets, and dropped one 5x5 and one 4x4. Went in there last year for some Trophy Bonded bullets, and he pulls them out for $60 a box. That place is a joke, but I'm sure it's perfect for people with too much money who go on guided trips every year. If you take the time and spend time shooting I believe you can get any gun to perform the way you like. You can have the Gun Room......

When I was looking for a new left handed, bolt, 300 win mag, I checked out the gun room, too. I was treated like a theif the entire time I was there. If an employee wasn't standing right behind me, there was one staring at me from the end of the row. I was the only customer in the place, so maybe that was the reason they followed my every move. It was a very uncomfortable experience. If they were hanging around to answer questions they should have asked me if I needed help or suggested rifles and not quietly stand there with their arms crossed staring down at me. This is the only store that has ever treated me this way. I left and went over to NW Armory.

They were super friendly and helpful. Not only did they sell me the rifle but they got my scope sale too. Very knowledgable. I was treated like a friend from the moment I walked in the place. I am glad I did.

Last year, my wife and I gave the gun room another try when looking for a new rifle for her. Not only did they insult my wife twice, they were out and out rude. It was getting to the point of asking the 'sales'guy to step outside and 'discuss' his opinions about my wife and her novice questions.

I try to give places a second chance. It was like they really don't want customers at the gun room. We went back to the NW Armory and were made customers for life.

There are stores who actually want people to buy from them. The gun room is not one of them.

If you are interested in taking a short drive to Gresham, Keith's Sporting Goods has a great selection and the best prices I've seen on everything I price out! If you go to the gun shows, Keith's is the store taking up an entire Isle! They sell a ton of guns and pass on the savings to you!

Give them a call!

Sorry I forgot the intro!

I'm just your average guy working too hard and playing too little!

Live in Gresham, work in portland. Lucky enough to get into an alumaweld this year, so I'm constantly checking out ifish!

I don't work for Keith's, but I've thought about it! Boy would I love an employee discount. New baby makes the fishing/hunting fund tighter than usual.

I've been pricing out handguns and elk rifles and Keith's is consistently lower than anyone I've seen. They even beat out one of the FFL dealers who says he adds $20 bucks to wholesale. Keith's was $40 cheaper on a $400 revolver!

I've never read an intro before, so I trust that mine was ok.

I m glad to hear that I am not the only one that thought that guy at the GUN ROOM was a A$$. He told me what a piece of junk my browning was and tried to sell me a Dakota rifle for $5000. He then went on a rant about how my HK USP was junk and I should by a SW sigma from him for $600 or 700 as I remember. I just turned and walked out never to return. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but to insult someone’s choice like he does is just rude and bad business, I have been very impressed with the Sportsmen’s warehouse in Salem they have a great selection and the prices are fair. Not to mention the staff is friendly and professional

Flatfish, Right On, see my post about gun smithing. These gun shops and other that treat you poorly should be skipped. I hate feeling like I am annoyance, and look for better alternatives. (I only try to annoy BOE). I live near two gunshops in Hillsboro and Verbort, and without hesitation will drive over to Donald because my business is appreciated.

I've had great luck at Keith's. Very good prices, good service and selection. If he doesn't have it, he can get it. What more could you ask for?

And yes, the Gun Room is a joke. I can't believe that anyone would by a gun from them.

pdxkevin: Your wife isn't alone. God help you if are a non-hunting spouse trying to fill a Christmas wish list and walk into THAT place. My friend made the mistake of doing that before she talked to me and left the place in tears. Was informed by the THREE men about her lack of intelligence, wasting valuable time and space (the store was empty of other customers), and probable lack of money (she had over a thousand to spend).
I didn't leave in tears at my experience, but was sorrily tempted to place certain items in deep, dark places.
Haven't had very good luck at a couple of the other places mentioned here either. Although one is better than the other. So i resort to buying on the internet. It doesn't seem to matter there.

That's funny - when I saw this post it brought back too many memories of those jerks. I went in the gun room the first time about 5 years ago when I was looking for a Remington 700 stainless and I had found the same gun at Keiths and NW Armory for about $500. His was $679 and I asked if he was flexible on his price - he actually had the gall to tell me that his Remingtons were the "top quality" number one guns from the factory and if you get a Remington somewhere else in town you are getting junk. This is the first time I've told anyone this - but this is the perfect place:

I was so ****** off at the guy over that and some other stuff he said that I went in a few weeks later and had him fill out the paperwork to order a $2500 custom gun from the Remington custom shop for my dad. My dad and I had planned this out to get back at him and I called my dad 1/2 way through the transaction to ask my dad a phony question about the barrel length or something and then I got off the phone and told the owner that I made a huge mistake - that my dad would never buy a gun from you a - holes and I turned around and walked out the door. I've never been back (and will never go back since I might get shot...) I never felt bad about my prank, but reading all the other posts here sure makes me feel a lot better about it.

I don't know way you would pay to go to a zoo when the Gun Room is free. Not living in Portland I go by just to hear all the BS. It is worth the drive up the freeway. However, it is a toss up between Starvin Marvin in Eugene and the Gun Room who can P off a customer faster. e

Warren is still there huh? That's too funny! I bought a Browning O/U there in 1976 and he swore it was the best buy around and I should buy there. The fore grip wood got damaged and I needed it replaced a few months later...customer service? HA!!! I had to take the gun elswhere.
It's amazing that place is still in business.
