Default Interstate Unit for Mule Deer

Does anyone have any information about the Interstate Unit that they would be willing to share? We have always hunted the Ochoco Unit for Mule deer, but thought we would try something different this year and drew a tag for the Interstate Unit. Taking a scouting trip September 14-15 and was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me some good area's to concentrate my scouting efforts.

Not too familiar with the territory, Diggerdan; I'll be interested in hearing how the scouting trip pans out.

Good luck!

Well Diggerdan, I wish I could help you but I've never hunted there before. Just be glad you get to chase mulies, while fishbone and I will be chasing Yaquina hogs and Candiani rote heads and woodies here shortly..........

Diggerdan - I had a tag there 2 yrs ago and went along to hunt grouse with friends who had deer tags last year. My advice is to hunt the highest elevation areas and north-facing slopes. There was a big fire (Winter/Toolbox) just to the north of Interstate unit and another big fire within the unit NW of Lakeview earlier this summer so there may be deer that are displaced from their usual early october haunts. There were widespread fire closures in July & August - don't know current status. You could check the Fremont NF's website for fire closures and maybe hook up with one of their wildlife bio's for detailed info on deer.

Anything that I know is 20 years out of date.
I will try to find out sonething and post it.
The Yanix Bute area was good at one time and my grandfather did well in the Sycan area.
