Default Bad News for Yakima River Springers

I know there aren't a whole bunch of Yakimaniacs, but for those who enjoy fishing in your back yard here on the Yakima River, there won't be a season this year. :depressed: :depressed:

I just talked to Jim Cummings at the WDFW for our region and he informed me that at yesterday's meeting they decided not to open it up...and no explanation is obviously needed. Counts maxing out around 6000 then dropping to a mere 400 prior to a decision like that definitely didn't help our chances. Oh well, you can't blame them.

With gas prices, it looks like we'll have to be real particular about the trips we make!!

I have never fished the Yak, live just an hour away tho in Pendleton. Hey you can come over here and fish the Umatilla for springers, it's open for now.

Anything happening just yet? There are already decent returns at the Prosser dam, so you must be getting some numbers there.

Bob,

Where have you been hanging out? I saw an earlier post on some Wind success over on steelheader.net, but haven't heard anything since.

Too bad about the Yak...I was pumped about another season.

Hey Mike, been fishing more weekdays than weekends, splitting time between the Wind and the Cow.

Looking @ the Bonneville counts it'll now just be the Cowlitz.

Cow's been spotty @ times but were picking up a few nice ones most days, and the first summer runs this last week!

See ya out there!

Tough going man...the counts are killing me!! You're right, it looks like it's about time for the Cow again.

Chromage right there!! Nice to hear the summer runs are showing up...just more incentive for me. I took a personal day on the 16th, so maybe it'll have to be a Cowlitz day!!

Thanks Bob.
