How big will he be?? better pic...
Here's a cruddy pict taken from my camcorder of a buck we saw this last weekend in Eastern Oregon. Note the width (about 2" outside the ears) and the size of the eyeguards!! Heck, it was the first weekend of May!!
Suppose he might make the magical 30"?? edited with a better picture(s)..

Just to give you a little information on getting an estimate of the size of a buck. Never, and I mean never try to judge them from a back of the head shot. Just in my good estimate from the back side, he will be about 23 to 26 inches wide.

They always look so much bigger when in velvet. I don't think he'll make 30", but it's way too early to really tell.
What unit you bear hunting in? How was the bear hunt?

Re: How big will he be?? better pic...
better pics....
We had the Catherine Ck Pine Ck Keating tag.....I've seen lots of bears in the wild...but can't think of any I've seen out in the heavy rain.
It rained all except a few hours Thursday afternoon, which is when we saw our one and only bear, a thick-coated small-ish bear in a BEAUTIFUL cinnamon red color. He was moving fast across an open hillside, stopped twice, but at 442 yards by rangefinder, it was too far to shoot!!

Re: How big will he be?? better pic...
Note the bumps forming on his bases in the first pic, I think he's going to have some really cool "trash" on the bottom.
I killed an old 3x3 a long time ago in the Buelah unit, right under Castle Rock. He was about 23w x 20h, nice eyeguards, very heavy, and all sorts of 1/2 - 1" long "twigs" below his eyeguards. He also only had 3 teeth left....

How come? I can understand not estimating the size of a Muley Buck from its backside if it is stotting or fleeing as their ears are up and they are misjudged as a result of this. In this picture however; the ears are pretty relaxed and down so what would be the difference.. If it is past his ears, he will be bigger than your estimate in my opinion..

Re: How big will he be?? better pic...
Talked to a buddy of mine who used to be a guide and has done a fair amount of taxidermy. He said that it should get well above 30" maybe even 35"!! Nice buck thanks for the posting. Good to see those big boys have made it through many hunts and winters, knowing he has little ones out there with the same potential.

Re: How big will he be?? better pic...
I'm gonna agree with muley buck, I dont think hes gonna get much wider than three to four more inches than he already is. he is already growing up with his antlers and his first forks and low on the main beam. I would poke him this aug though.
