Explosion in North Portland!
Anyone hear it? I just heard about it on the news and got a call from a cleint - currently on stand-by to possibly go do some air sampling. Sounds like it was a pretty large explosions at a pharmaceutical company - rocked some house boats....

Re: Explosion in North Portland!
Pretty nearly blew me out of bed this morning around 4:15-4:20. We got up and looked out. We could see the orange glow in the sky and the thin trail of black smoke. Sound travels really well over the water.
Then came the inevitable questioning. Did the Chinese finally decide to attack?

Re: Explosion in North Portland!
Someone was heard saying that they thought it could have been Paul Linnman...something about exploding sealions...
Just glad no one was seriously injured.

Re: Explosion in North Portland!
Saw the news this morning and all it said was major plant explosion in North Portland - Got the heart going and checked my cell - no messages - Thank goodness.
Sounds like 3 folks went to the hospital and by the looks of the plant, they are very lucky to be alive. That was one big bang! Interesting to see what may have caused it. There is some nasty stuff in there, so be careful Kerry! Benzene & HCl was mentioned earlier.

Matt - I bet that got your blood moving a bit.
Just cleaned my respirator and have new defender cartridges waiting in will-call. I would suspect phenol as well.

Swing by if you get the chance...
It really is only a couple miles down the road from our plant. You gotta get some goodies for your kids...

I'd say that poison darts work better and that nobody can hear an airgun, but that wouldn't be politically correct, so I'll abstain from any such remarks.

Re: Explosion in North Portland!
Right across the street from where I now work. Fortunately I had the day off today! They did shut the plant down, and it didn't re-open until about 11:00 AM this morning.
The place that blew, I had applied for a position four times in the last 8 or nine months. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't hear from them!

Re: Explosion in North Portland!
It was definately quite a site. I work for a local fire department and had the opportunity to spren a few quality hours out there today. This place, what is left of it, was invovled with the kinds of products that would make most people cringe. Today is a prime example of what can happen when dangerous chemicals mix. The amount of damage there is certainly mind blowing, I have never seen anything like it. certainly reminded me to use caution.
BE SAFE EVERYONE!
