What brand of Bow?
I'm thinking about buying a new Bow. Currently useing a early 90's XI. I've been reading a little bit on the Bowtech, but truly have no idea what I should buy. Only been at it for a couple of years. All I know is I want a short & light Bow. Thanks for any advise.

Re: What brand of Bow?
I have been using a PSE bow for about the 4 years. Its my first and only bow, haven't gotten any blood on it, buts thats my fault.
I would probably research the different websites that hopefully give unbiased opinion.
Only problem is you can't get all the info from one site.
Here is a list of some of the sites I have used for different equipment

Re: What brand of Bow?
Take a trip up to Archers Afield in Tigard, and talk to Jim. They have four or five lines in stock. I have a eight year old Martin Couger, awsome bow. I would buy a new one, but if it isn't broke, don't fix it .

Re: What brand of Bow?
Visit a pro bow shop and look at them. I nearly bought a Mathews and/or a Parker this year but they didnt offer any more performance than the better priced Martin bows.
Lots of good bows out there. I ended up with a Jaguar Magnum as it is short and light. I spend a lot more time packing it than shooting it.
I bought it from Jim at Archers Afield. Broken Arrow Archery has a nice selection usually also.
Should be able to get a nice price in a few weeks when bow season is over. These stores will need to clear out the inventory.

Re: What brand of Bow?
I've got a Martin Cougar bow that i have'nt used in a couple of years that i'd like to sell. Bought it new about 6-7 years ago. never hunted with it, and target shot it a few times. Comes with a quiver and a few arrows. It needs a tune up. I'll sell it for $75 or offer. Mike 503.663.1916

I shoot a Blue Mountain Razorback. I have had it for 5 years now and no problems at all. I believe they are made in Milton Freewater.

Re: What brand of Bow?
I have a martin Impala I would like to sell also. I got no use for it since I picked up the new bow this year. It would make somebody a good back up bow if they wanted one.
It is set now with a 27 inch draw, and can be easily changed. turned all the way up it peaks out at 82 pounds. Comes with arrow rest, sights, and quiver.
Machined aluminum riser, carbon limbs. Would be happy to sell it for $75. Unless you want to give me more.

Re: What brand of Bow?
i have had a pse speed flight, martin lynx, and now a parker hunter mag. i really like my parker it has very little viberation, lots of speed and is pretty quiet. i bought it 2 years ago for 800. and it came with 12 carbon arrows, sights, quiver and release and has a lifetime warranty anything ever breaks they fix it or send a new one. you don't have to spend alot of money to get a great bow like the others said visit a bow shop and shoot a few then decide. i recommend kuch archery in yamhill.

Re: What brand of Bow?
Thank you everyone for giving me some ideas. I think I'll start off by going down to my local archery shop and shoot a few different Bows. Since my last name is "Parker" maybe I should buy a Parker Bow. Do you think they will give me a good discount for that. Once again thank you for your help... I'm going to stick with buying a brand new Bow...

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">Sounds like a nice bow, those carbon limbs are nice. I think most Martins come in 27" ->29" or 29" -> 31" draw, though I'm not familure wih the Impala. I'm a 30 1/2" draw  .
halfounce :I'm no master, but a few of my thoughts on bow selection. I killed my first elk with a 55LB $99 whitetail II . I then whent to 85 LB Lynx magnum with cams, short, light, and fast. Looking back I never shot it well. I had my first wound loss with it(high between lung and back pass through). After that episode, Jim at archers sold me a 70 LB couger with wheels, slow, heavy, and smooth. I've killed my share of elk and deer with it ( not to plug Archers, Ive seen plenty of newbies walk out of there with $1K worth of equipment ), and still using it after eight seasons. I'ts kind of like a part of me now, I spend little time tuning it year to year. I know very few people that can shoot up to thier bows potential, me included. A more expensive, faster bow won't always make you a better shot. I can probably shoot most $200 bows as well as a $800 bow. I'm sure there are people that shoot well enough to tell the difference. I personaly need all the forgiviness I can get in the field. So my advice is go to a pro shop and shoot eight or ten bows before you buy. Better a clean double lung with a $99 bow than a bad hit with a $800 bow.

Re: What brand of Bow?
Like everything in life you get what you pay for. If you buy one for 200 bucks it'll perform like it. I finally coughed up the money for a mathew's two years ago and will never shoot anything else until someone really proves me wrong. PSE is a moderately priced bow that will shoot pretty good. Basically a middle of the road by any experts view. Next one up is probably a bowtech, and then there's mathews. I shoot the Ultra 2 and it flat out burns arrows. My hunting arrows are right at 300 fps with 425 grains flying out of it. Not many people in this world that own Mathews will talk them down. The only thing bad I can think of is the price. I did an absolute ton of research on them if you want my opinions on different models without bias, but you first have to decide on the money you're going to spend, then find the bow. Just my .02.

Re: What brand of Bow?
Halfounce,
I'm sure that once you get to bow shopping you'll discover that there are as many opinions as there are bows out there. You need to find the one that best fits you, don't let some sales person steer you into something you're not comfortable with. Shoot as many as you can and try to find one that you will be able to hit stuff with. Beware the super fast, super short bows - they can be very difficult to be accurate with and may have tuning issues that will drive you crazy.
Started off with a martin cougar. Real stable, long axled club. Accurate but s-l-o-w. Had 2 animals jump the string and waltz out of the way of the arrow at 30 yds.
Didn't care for that much so back to the bow shop where I ended up with a martin "pride" split limb model. Really fast and just as squirrelly. Literally took me months of shooting to get the bugs worked out. A great deal of my problems were due to improper / incompetant initial setup by the shop I purchased from. I educated myself and rectified most of it on my own. The biggest problem I had was that because the bow is relatively short, at full draw the pressed on nockset was pinching the nock causing a fracture to the nock which resulted in blowing up the nock upon release - pretty scary situation. Solution was a tied on nockset. Proper timing of the cams was the other critical issue that I struggled with which was resolved by my changing bow shops and getting someone that recognized where the problem lied. I have not had a problem since (4 yrs now) and love my bow. The bottom line is that I am comfortable with it and have the confidence that my arrow is going to go where I want it to.
Best of luck to you,
TM

Re: What brand of Bow?
Once again thank you all so much for the great information. I can hardly wait to go try out some Bow's. I will let you know when I decide. I have hunted the last two years, still haven't had the opportunity to hear that awesome sound when the arrow is piercing through. Wasn't able to go East hunting this year because I chose to go on a week long fall Chinook trip this month. Can hardly wait to catch some hoggggs.....

Re: What brand of Bow?
My Martin Lynx has yet to fail me this is its 16th season. 15 deer and 10 elk...can't and won't complain.
