Three Rivers/Nestucca report 1-19

Hit the Nestucca/ Three Rivers yesterday in search of some late steelhead action. The mouth was relatively uncrowded (3-5 people), but also slow.

I did manage to land a nice hen of about 7 pounds (somewhere between the hatchery and the mouth

) It was a nice bright fish with just a faint hint of pink on the cheek, but when I cut her open, the eggs were totally loose. Not a hint of skein anywhere. Too bad, I had thoughts of curing some nice tight eggs last night. Meat was in good shape though.

Saw a few fish landed when I watched at the hatchery for a while, but it wasn't red hot. Lots of people crowded in right at the deadline.

DT, good report. Did you go down to the mouth of 3 Rivers and get a look at the Nestucca? If so, how high was it and what color was the water? Thanks

The big river was sitting at just about 6' when I was there on Monday. It had great color and about 2-3 feet of visibility. I thought it looked great, but I just couldn't get any bites there. Maybe I just gave up too early.
