As long as you are accurate enough for quick effective kills.

If us bowhunters can get close enough for a kill you can too. 75 yds is probably max distance and your kill shot would be the same as an archer.

Good Luck!

Kingfisher - Yes, you can  . Shotguns w/slugs are legal for elk and shotguns with rifled bbls. are considered shotguns in shotgun-only hunts. The f&w commission dealt with this exact situation and the Dept. made a clarification about 2 years ago (before, technically, a rifledslug barrel made your shotgun a "rifle"). Call 872-5272 (ODFW HQ) and ask for Steve Williams. He can confirm this. Or, check page 12 of the big game regs.

Oh, I see now you are in Washington. What I posted applies to Oregon - don't know if WA is on same page or not. GSApe

Default Elk Hunting Question

I just bought a new shotgun with the fully rifled barrel. If I'm shooting sabot slugs, can I hunt elk with it in a shotgun unit?
I have had people say yes you can, and others that say no you cannot use a shotgun on elk.
I well also be hunting in Washington State. The game books don't make it very clear, it says other big game may be hunted with a 10 or 12 gauge shotgun using slugs. Whats other big game? Well I have a 12 gauge and I well be using sabot slugs, so
Thanks for any info
