Default Any Ochocco advice?

Well I drew one of the thousands of Ochocco buck tags and I've never hunted the unit before. I am going to start scouting (already have my maps) and I wanted ask you veterans of the area (BOE especially) if you had any pointers for deer. I am not after a wall hanger, but after 2 years of being unsuccessful for High Cascade forks I would like to have something to show for my effort this year.
Thanks for any advice. I will be happy to talk about my High Cascade experience if anyone could use it.

Wade

Addition: OK I realize that isn't specific enough. My main concern is no matter how much I scout, opening day will be a zoo and every plan I lay out will go out the window. I usually hunt alone or with my father (but not against hunting with others). I like to truck camp, but I also like to spike camp out of my pack if that's what it takes to get away from the crowd. I don't mind walking and carrying game a long way, but I prefer not to drop one in the bottom of a steep brushy canyon when I am by myself.

So I guess my questions boil down to where have the good buck ratios been in the past? Is there a strong elevation preference this time of year (like in the Cascade hunts)? Where are the best place to get away from the crowds?

Thanks for any pointers!

You ask a lot of questions there, and my first response is to stay away from any and all places I may hunt, but then again you are rifle hunting bucks and I wont be doing that so I guess we will get along just fine.

I spend probably 3 weeks a year in the Ochoccos and I spent it all on the XXXXX end very near Mt XXXXXXXX. We see a lot of bucks there. If you walk down XXXX creek you will be sure to find lots of animals, that are wall hangers. Another alternative is to hunt XXXXX creek or XXXXXXX canyon, I have never seen anybody in this area hunting.

Good luck, and post a picture of the buck.

actually I will just send you an email.

Thanks BOE!

I appreciate the help. I haven't fogotten when you helped me out with the shad fishing advice last year either, so now I owe you 2. I'll be sure to get you a couple of rounds next time we have an East Side social (if I don't go to the wrong bar next time  ).
