Default Where do you shop for hunting gear?

If I put up a Cabellas link, would you shop online? Do you already shop online?

Or do you use local retailers, and if so, whom?

What is the best place in our area to shop for hunting equipment?

Thanks,
Jen

I purchased my shotgun at Fisherman's, and my black powder rifle at cabelas. Cabelas has some very good deals on hunting gear including camp in their bargain cave.

Buy from Cabelas some but prefer to use local retail stores if I can. Fisherman's and Joe's are okay for gear but that new Sportsmans Warehouse in Salem has an awesome hunting and camping department.

I archery hunt and buy most of my stuff at Archers Afield in Tigard. I like to touch it before I buy it, but I do buy from Cabela's on occasion or Sportco.com.
Shopping on the web is OK, but when I get a new Cabela's catalog, it seems to take up the rest of the evening. Yeah I know it's 99.9% the same as the last one but I just can't help it!!

I hope straydog counts to 10 before he responds to this one

I like to buy local but if I can mail order it and save money I will. I tend to shop at the following stores in no particular order.

1. GI Joes
2. Fishermans Marine
3. Cabelas
4. The Armory (In Milwaukie)
5. Kimmels (Tillamook)
6. Sportsmans Warehouse (salem) has seen me 3 times since they have opened a few weeks ago.
7. Archers Afield in Tigard for archery equipment

My favorite would probably be Cabelas. No hassle returns, great catalogs, decent pricing, 24 hour online shopping.

Cabela's get 90% of my business for my hunting and camping needs. I have never found a better selection or price and I dont have to drive for an hour to get there. Just log on and charge it to the Cabela's Card.

my next choices:

2. Fishermans
3. Sportsman Warehouse
4. Bi Mart
5. GI Joes

I really like to shop close to home if possible. I get good information locally, and like to pay them back by giving them my dollars. If I don't help support them, they'll be gone.

Next level is the local chains, Bi-Mart and Joe's. I rarely go to Walmart because they don't have a clue about how I fish or what I really need. I do shop Cabella's sometimes when I need something I can't find locally, but I find I shop there less and less. Maybe I already have everything I need.

My biggest complaint - no matter where I shop - is the amount of stuff made in China. I sincerely believe they don't give a rip about us, yet we are absolutely *cramming* our store shelves with their goods. I'll bet you'd have a hell of a time finding even one "Made in USA " item in one of their shops.

So, bottom line.... I shop locally and watch for a USA label. Sort of a "Defend America with your dollars" mindset.

I've seen a lot about Cabela's, but I tend to have good luck using Bass Pro Shops. They have good selection of gear, and thier prices are reasonable. If I'm buying local it's Broken Arrow in Milwaukie or Archery World in Vancouver.

Jen-
I usually go to In no real order locally:
1. Bobs in Longview, WA
2. Bi mart
3. Gi Joes

On line:
1. Cabellas 2-3 items a year usully because I can,t find them locally.
2. REI outlet.com Not camo but good stuff. 6 times a year.

Are you looking to get a % if we link in through ifish?

If Bi-Mart has it . . . I'll always buy there first! I know what they stock and that I will always get a consistently fair price. I've done a lot of my shopping @ Cabela's (mail and on-line) and I really like them. I've been to the new Sportsmen's Warehouse in Salem twice now and, although it's a ways to go, I'll likely save-up certain items and make the occasional trip there . . . short of Cabela's opening a store in our area, this place is GREAT!!! I shop at Fisherman's Marine and they are pretty good. I really do not like GI Joe's. My biggest complaints with them are price and that they are never serious about re-stocking their shelves. GI Joe's has, for years, been the very last resort for me. I also shop Sportsman's Guide once in awhile. Don

1. Bi-Mart
2. Cabelas
3. Sportsmans Warehouse
4. FMO
5. Freddy's
6. WalMart

in that order.

Notice that I don't list Joe's.....I prefer not to deal with them anymore, except to take someone else's ad in to get that price. I know they're an IFISH advertiser, but I think thats a mistake.

Living in the Newport area, for hunting gear in town there unfortunately is really only one choice: WalMart. In general they don't have the things that I need.

I used to go to Freddy's but then they dropped first their reloading supplies and then their firearms. So I don't tend to give them any of my hunting allowance unless absolutely necessary.

When I get out of Newport my first choice is usually BiMart. Good prices and a fair selection on reloading supplies. Second is probably GI Joes.

On line or mail order I hit anyone I can for whatever I am looking for. Primarily Midway, Midsouth, and Ballistic Products.

I already shop on line at Cabelas -- but if the link was here would go through it instead of direct -- However, with Sportsman's here in Salem --- I will be doing less with Cabelas --

I am with a few others on here. My family and I look like we are sponsored by Cabela's. You name it from hunting gear, to clothes,. jackets, camping, etc. If Cabela's ever made a car or truck, i would buy one.

I get some stuff at Fisherman's and Joes, but it mostly off items that just happen to be a good deal or things like shotgun shells. If there is anything I want, I get it at Cabela's. I have looked at BassPro Shops (Redhead), and they are decent.

I checked out Sportman's Warehouse a couple weeks ago and the hunting gear selection was the best I had seen in a retail store. The hunting clothing section could use some work. The only problem is that they are an hour and a half away and they have nothing I can't get from Cabela's or others locally.

I do alot of buying from cabela's, you;d think i was a stockholder. Locally, I buy from Joe's, Fisherman's marine, a little from wal-mart, hardly anything from Bi-mart. In hermiston, wal-mart was always willing to help with my hunter ed classes, Not bi-mart.
