Default Ruger M77

Can anyone tell me if it is worth spending the money to rebarrel an older Ruger M77 and if so what else could I do to upgrade this older gun. It is chambered for 7mm Rem. Scott.

Is it the early model with the tang safety (not a MkII)?

Why do you think that it needs to be re barreled?

If it does need a new barrel it is my opinion that it is worth the cost. The reciever is strong. the safety is in a good location, the triger can be made to work extremely good, and the scope can be mounted to the reciever without bases.

I have an older Ruger M77RS in .300 win mag with the tang safety and sights. It shoots great and I have taken a number of deer, 5 coyotes, and one bear with it. I wouldn't get rid of mine.

What caliber are you thinking of changing it to? If you want to change it to a commercially loaded round, maybe you should get another rifle, but if you have serious accuracy problems or you think the barrel is shot out try some serious cleaning with one of those Outers foul out electrodes, then a trip to the range. It would be cheaper than a new barrel.

I would probably rebarrel a rifle if I wanted a caliber that was some sort of wildcat or the rifling was in poor condition.

Let us know your reasoning for the question.

Thanks,

Andy
