Default Anybody have problem deer on their property??

My dear fellow fishing/hunting enthusiasts:

Every year since I was old enough to hunt I have rifle-hunted the Desolation unit in Eastern Oregon for mule deer with moderate success. I would guess that about 75% of the time we get our tags and are able to hunt. On the years we have not drawn successful tags we have hunted over on the west side with very litte success other than seeing seeing a plethora of roadhunters and very little deer. Well, this year we were unsuccessful in drawing tags to hunt in Eastern Oregon. My purpose in writing this post is to inquire if any of the ifishers here have any private property or area where there are blacktails that can legally be harvested that they do not plan on harvesting. I know this is a total shot in the dark. I have been hunting my whole life and have been taught to be an extremely responsible and ecologically aware hunter. I am not looking for a trophy, just somthing with horns that I might be able to feed my family with. I would be willing to split a portion of the harvest with the landowner or pay a small fee. Other than that, does anyone know where one might go for a reasonable shot at a blacktail? I am not asking for anybody's honey holes or secret spots. I am just unfamiliar with the area as far as hunting for deer over here and due to work constraints do not have the time to do a lot of scouting. Thanks in advance for any help you would be willing to give. See you out there.

I wish that I could help you out, but my experiences are very similar to yours. I have heard a lot of people on the West side of the Cascades complain about deer problems, but haven't found anyone that has wanted one of their problem deer harvested yet. Good question , it would be great to help out a fellow Ifisher. I suspect that there are many responsible hunters within the IFISH membership that would be happy to help.

Big Smizz, How many people are you talking about. I have two tags to fill then I may not mind turning someone onto my area, However it would be a one time shot and I would hope that next year as I start my hunt that I did not find the area full of hunters This would be an ethically thing because the area I'm talking about is timber company owned but for some reason carries a very high buck ration and I have seen two real wall hangers in there last year. Send me a PM and we will talk.

Also Jennie has a little buck that got after Kilches that she may want to see on the table.

Dan!

Big Smizz...

I was lucky enough to pull a Desolation Unit tag this year. Last year was my very experience hunting muleys in Eastern Oregon and I fell in love with the unit. Shot a very respectable 3x5 within the first two hours. Having hunted the west side in the Tioga Unit for around 20 years, it was a real treat to see so many deer on our short but fruitful hunt. Over the past couple of years, my hunting grounds in the Tioga have begun to dry up, I think there is a real issue going on with blacktail in Western Oregon that the state is just starting to figure out. Do you have any advice for me on where is a good place to hunt the Desolation Unit? Good luck to you this year, my neck is already beginning to swell with the fall season soon to approach
