Default Holy Chrome Hotdogs Its A Spinner Fest! (pics)

What a strange, strange day on the water. It was so humid that it felt like my dad and I were trolling the Panama Canal instead of the Multnomah Channel. Are you actually supposed to see your breath when its 55 degrees or so outside! Weird!

Today 7.5 out of 8 hours were a total drought... its funny how that other 30 minutes can make everything else seem OK!

When the water gets 55-56 degrees its time for me to bring out some old, deadly friends!

We got out there at 6:45 AM and trolled and trolled and trolled and trolled. We trolled up. We trolled down. We trolled forward. We trolled backward. We trolled to and frow... We only saw one fish caught for about 35 boats up till around 12:30 PM.

Shortly after tide change and after 33 of the 35 boats that were fishing out there had left due to the huge morning drought, we were on our last pass. It was South American jungle hot and I was ready to call it quits when SHABAMALAM! (doh! :tongue

This fish really fought great going on two reel burning runs and I enjoyed every minute of it.!

Spring chrome from the Panama Canal!

OK. Cool. Lets make one more pass since we caught a fish

...10 minutes later...

SHABAMALAM!

My dads rod takes one of the most violent, reel burning bites that I have ever seen from a springer. The rod just folded and it seemed like the fish hit the spinner swimming full speed the other way!

For once Cracker Donn gets the nate!

All right! Lets make one more pass

...5 minutes pass...

SHABAMALAM!

OK the first time was good but I gotta tell ya I liked the second time just as much!

Once... twice.... three times a spinner springer!

I just absolutely love, love, love fishing with spinners. My boat has a huge bite to land ratio using spinners coupled with my 10.5ft Lami moooching roods. I fish the drags nice and tight and those big rods act like a giant rubberband in setting the hook. Once the fish feels the rod its all she wrote!

I think Mr. Chinook likes spinners for lunch!

That was it. Three bites, three fish. We saw just about nothing else happen for anyone else the rest of the day. We trolled all the way from Coon to the enterance of Scappoose Bay and everyone cried drought. I feel very lucky to have hit a pod of three biters in the whole river so be forewarned if you go chasing this report that is was a very nice boat ride for the other 99 boats out there.

Springers, its whats for dinner!

Shane, I left one pass to early. When I got to the marina and cleaned up the boat another boat was coming in with a similar report. He saw three fish on while coming in.

Sounds like you had a pretty good day there Shane.

I had a very memorial day, but no fish in the boat; 4 Chinook on, 1 Steelhead on......0 fish in the boat

Hey everyone I know I havent been posting a lot of pics but the reports of my demise were greatly exagerated! Rest assured I have been catching quite a few fish. With work, coaching baseball for my kid, ocean fishing and all the other stuff that is going on its just been tough to post any reports but with certain internet elements calling me out so I thought I would burn some extra energy to post once again!

OK I was tired and forgot to thorw up some details...

Fished spinners with size 5 blades. Red beads and combo's of red/white/brass and red/brass blades caught all the fish. 30" lead lines with 6 oz weights banging the bottom then reeling up 3-4 cranks... fish were suspended a bit. We used 9.5ft leaders, I know thats pretty long but the rods I use are 10.5ft so it works. I like a long leader because when I make turns trolling I think that leader allows the spinner a little more flutter room if you know what I mean.

Good luck if you go but like I said beware of chasing reports because for almost every other boat out there it was a total drought... I guess sometimes its better to be lucky than good!

Nope not loosing weight just sucking it in!

Since you brought it up Gary... I measured my head the other day cause I needed a bike helmet and my gord is 27" around! Needless to say I could never really find a Duck hat, or any hat for that matter that fit very well

The other day I was at GI Joes getting some baseball stuff for my kid and there it was on the clearance/freak rack right next to the size 19 cleats and the Trailblazers are #1 shirt was the biggest green Oregon hat I have ever seen The thing is at least 10" deep and is about 27.5" around!

It was just too Africa hot to be wearing it!
