Default Will fire danger keep us out of the forest?

Are we going to get access to the forest to hunt this year? State Forestry just went level 3, which means no cable logging. With a week of East wind predicted, I heard rumor they would be at level 4 in a week if it didnt rain.

They wouldnt shut down the woods would they? I think each agency (ie. BLM, State, Feds, etc...) gets final say so on its property, dont they??

Anybody know a rain dance?

Every year it seems that we are faced with this situation. I think they discuss these issues in public to make the hunting public more aware of fire dangers. The scenario is that the USFS wants to delay the bow season and then the ODFW says that it would shorten or force the season into a rifle season etc etc.
They haven't done it yet. I think they end up with no smoking, no campfires and no off road STV's.

BOE-
On the west side I know Longview Fiber (blue gates)has closed its ground around Vernonia. Walk/bike in may be open on Olympic (yellow gates) they seem to close later than the others. The state seems never to close. If a guy is willing to walk and or knock on doors there are allways places to go. But trying to stalk on corn flakes is another topic.
As far as east goes it is any ones guess.

Even if the state forest closes, the NF and BLM will be open. I always have a NF backup plan. I've been locked from high fire danger many seasons but always find a place to hunt.

Weyerhaeuser has closed down the St. Helens tree farm in southwest Washington, even to walk in hunting. I have a special elk permit for a season starting September 1st in the Toutle unit and there is no access into this unit with the Weyerhaeuser gate closed. I'm not sure about other Weyerhaeuser lands, but I'm guessing they are all shut down. They had a guard sitting in a pickup at the gate Saturday when I went down there to do some scouting, and he told me it won't open up until we get 3 inches of rain.

The USFS could delay the season-- 3 years ago when Montana burned they delayed the archery so that it ran into the rifle season opener -- BLM joined them in some areas -- so it could happen here --- I'd be praying for rain if I had a tag for any Eastern units -- West side -- walking on corn flakes is a good analogy -- so pray for some rain here too --

Have some friends scouting the Steens this weekend so will have a report of conditions soon----
