Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Was wondering who is going to make the opener for halibut
in Newport next Friday and Saturday.

Weather permitting I will be down Thursday night.
Who else is going to take the plunge

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
PeterMac is in for Friday and Saturday. I am fishing with a soon to be IFISH member on his boat "Net Tally" . We'll be staying at the Yaquina Bay in, and spending some time at the Rogue Brewery and sure hope to bump into the usual suspects after the day's fishing .

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Sat. only for me opening week, probably hang around sun. for salmon/bottomfish/crab , same second week. the state really shoud open Sun. for halibut, its not fair to us weekend warriors, but I guess they can,t afford to pay overtime to the fish checkers?

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Hey Pete, Glad to see you decided to come out for the opener. Did you get your boat all straigtened out and ready for the salt?
Guess WildHawg said it for me. I'll be down Thurs afternoon to fish Fri and Sat. Going to camp at South Beach with Puffin and WildHawg. Leaving the boat Moored at the transient dock. Give a shout when you get into town.

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Planning on going down, arriving thursday, fishing Friday and Saturday.
Around the Halibut opener, how hard is it to find a place to stay in Newport?

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Yep, all three days for the Irish Wake. I'll probably launch on Wednesday and get a slip for the weekend. I had a virgin to sacrifice (Riverliver) but Pilar got to him first - even though he had to let it go back.
Who was it said "White gold?" I like that.
Let the games begin.

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Yep, probably all three days and I may have some open seats. I'll know by the weekend if there will be openings. Let the carnage begin. Maybe even an exploratory trip to Heceta Banks if the weather permits.

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Planning to leave right after work Thursday night (swing shift) and get a couple of hours sleep then fish Friday and Saturday. I’m thinking of going and fishing the ranch for the first time but I have one question. I was wondering if 300 yards of line will be adequate to fish with, seeing it is around 600ft + - then add in the drift.

Re: Who is fishing the opener in Newport
Triple C,
Yes, they have temp slips. Just check in at the marina office (not the store). A slip for my 23' runs about $13 a night, and if you get there after they close, just go ahead and pick a slot on "A" or "J" dock and settle up with them in the morning. You can also call over ahead of time so they know you're coming - which might not be a bad idea since it gets really busy during the all-depth days.
