Default Newport/New Boat

Picked up my new Striper in Coos Bay Saturday and drove straight to Newport. Had a crew of two waiting and put her in the water at 3:30 and headed out for bottom fish. Caught a number of Lings and had three keepers out of the bunch. Back in port by 6:00 and cleaned fish and tied up in front of the Kismet. Well we headed out early Sunday and put the hammer to more bottom fish. Found schools of "bass" feeding on top and tossed light jigs into the school and had a great time for an hour or so. Then headed for some lings, and again had a great time as we caught three more keepers. Did not have my downriggers for the Chinook but will be loaded this weekend (I hope). New boat ran great and will allow for greater lenghts (and a place to sleep) of travel 23 feet vs. 18 1/2. Look forward this year to meeting more Salty Dogs. So if any of you see a 23 foot Striper with no numbers stop and say hello.

Hey Salty, you going to be in Newport this coming week-end?
Feel like running out for Halibut Friday or saturday. Will be at ramp in a Trophy 2052 with a White Radar Arch and Green Soft top Friday morning. Answer to Fish Tales on 78.

Congrats on the new boat. She sounds beautiful.

I have a 15ft Arima and want to fish the inshore area for bottom fish. Lings and/or rockfish (black bass). Any suggestions for a small boat running out of Newport. Head N. , S. or ???. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Tyeetoo.

Dennis:

Will either be at Newport on Sat. or Sunday. Will give you a call on 78- and yes I would be interested in running out to deeper water- Rockpile area. Have not been out to that area yet. Been close a time or two last year Salmon fishing.

tyeeteo:

I have fished south and not very far out. I run towards Seal Rock. I was about 4-5 miles south of the south jetty and looking for the "humps" we caught all of our fish Friday in 70-80 foot of water. Sunday we found the sea bass in deeper water but we were running in from deeper water after trying to mooch for Salmon. If you pick your day's when the Ocean is calm- like last Sunday you should not have any problems in your Arima- talked to a couple of guys at the cleaning station who were also loaded with bass and they had a 16 foot aluminum boat with a 15 horse moter and they were fishing towards the lighthouse. Good luck

Thanks for the tip Diamondback. Will look for calm seas and give it a shot toward Seal Rocks. Tight lines, Mike in Florence.
