Default who uses what

Sounds like the weekend was good for all. Good weather, catches, times and good company. Hopefully next weekend we will be able to head out of Newport conditions permitting. So my question to all is what were you using to catch what.

For bottom dwellers a white curly, ?oz lead, waited herring with flies above, any other colors or riggin that are producing well.

For salmonoids sound like hootchies with some bait on the hook off the riggers. Another post said blues and greens any other colors or combonations working, flashers, divers, spoons?

Were else can you ask these questions and more with out getting the stink eye and cold shoulder. No place that I have seen or been around this group is great. Hopefully I will be able to pass on some of what I have learned from the Dogs.

Thanks for your help

Bottom fish: Nothing beats a 4oz jig head with a glow twin tail for lings. I add 1 or 2 salmon flys up from there that catch both lings and blacks. Last trip out I got two keeper lings on this setup one on the fly and one on the twin tail. Nice to limit in one pull.

Salmon: Lead cannon ball on slider with a delta shaped flasher and hootchie over a cut plug. Also fish this from down rigger with out the lead. Never failed me yet.

Each of these setups have specifics to them such as leader lengths, hook types, hootchie colors and styles that get varied for different conditions.

IMO it is more important to find where the fish are then what you throw at them. No matter what you are fishing with if you bait is not in front of a fish you ain't going to catch much. The hunt is the most important part of fishing.
