Umpqua / Winchester bay results 4/20 - 4/23
Seems like old news now, but haven't had a chance to get on for a week and a half.
Went to Coos Bay on the Wed. the 20th and crabbed the bay in the afternoon. Ended up with 6 nice keepers and about as many large red rock. Sturgeon fished the umpqua all day Thurs. and Fri. fishing was very slow, but I had a great time anyway. Haven't seen my best fishin' buddy in 7 months (my son who is in the Navy), and haven't fished with my dad in 8 years (he lives in wyoming). So it was great to just hang out and BS. We had one nice oversized on for about three minutes on thursday. It was cool to have my pops feel a 300# fish when the biggest thing he's ever caught is a 40# lake trout. The fish tail-walked, then rolled over and cut the line in the process. We had another fish on friday that we never got to see, it just spit the hook. Sat. we were looking forward to taking my dad out of Charleston on the Betty Kay. Unfortuneately he was green before we started fishing. I had a pretty hot rod, and caught plenty of fish. My son caught plenty and did manage one nice keeper Ling. Our original plan was to attend the Southern TA meeting. I know a few folks were impressed that I came up to the Portland meeting from Klamath Falls. I figured maybe my son could've set a new record for distance travelled to attend a TA meeting since he flew out from Norfolk, Va. a couple of days earlier. Unfortuneately, my 9 yr. old daughter fractured her hip Friday evening resulting in emergency surgery and pins driven into it. We decided to cut our stay short and get home to help her and her mother out. Anyone wanna buy a trampoline cheap?
