Default Quail hunting

Anybody know of some good spots to hunt quail. I tried that place out of Madras for two years and it is not very good. Also, maybe a spot on the Deschutes to chukar hunt and start from the top of the canyon. The hike up the canyon is a killer, but not for my pointer, Kota.

For mountain quail, I would hunt the scappoose and Saddle mountain units. Look for areas logged in the last 5 years. I don't hunt w/a dog, but still kill lots of quail walking the roads. I only hunt the gated areas. A dog is handy for kicking up singles once the covey is busted and for finding birds. I limit myself to a bird or two a covey, otherwise finding them is tough.

It's going to be a good fall for quail in NW oregon. I've already been seeing lots of broods.

Thanks fo the tip. I am looking for some places for valley quail, but I will give the mountain quail a try. Sounds like it could be productive hunting. Maybe the dog will find a few couveys.
