Ferel pigs?
My father in law and I would like the skinny on where to go to kill some pigs here in oregon. Does anyone have any experiance with this? I have all the tools and knowledge to make them taste good after the kill . I,ve roasted several whole hogs on my roaster i built and would be willing to feed the whole i fish clan if we should get lucky. Thanks in advance. P.S. The pig roaster is for rent or if you want to borrow it with a deposit you can do that to.

Re: Ferel pigs?
We deer and elk hunt on a private ranch in the Fossil unit out of Clarno along the John Day river. There are ferel pigs around there but not many. Most of the ranchers will let you hunt for them if you go and ask from what I'm told. I personally have never seen any around there but have heard about them. It is my understanding that there is no season on pigs in Oregon so you can legally hunt for them at any time. I would bet that if you are hunting for the pigs during a particular season (deer or elk) that you would be required to posses a tag for that season in order to be carring a gun. My suggestion would be to get hold of the wildlife biologist for the area around Clarno and pick his brain. Hope this helps.................I love bbq pork.

Re: Ferel pigs?
Contact the Dept. of fish and wildlife in Prineville. When I read in this years regulations about feral pigs I checked into it.
They told me that the largest population of problem pigs was on private land southeast of Maupin. I have contacted the Prinville office on a couple of different matters, and I got the very distinct impression that the personel in that office were not very positive towards hunters. Maybe it is just me they don't like.

Re: Ferel pigs?
There are a few along the Klamath River just north of the California border. I'm not working and if you get all the way down here I will take you down the canyon.

Re: Ferel pigs?
Kiwanda, I know there are quite a few over around Antelope. The youth camp has a bunch on there but you have to know someone to get on there. I am sure there has to be some on the outskirts and like was mentioned before the ranchers hate them and usually give permission if asked. Good luck.

Re: Ferel pigs?
Contact James Haley at Wild River Ranch Guide & Outfitters. They don't show it on their website, but I have know James for a number of years and he mentioned that I should come over and shoot pigs with him sometime. Tell him that Bill Snyder refered you.

Re: Ferel pigs?
Kiwanda Kid,
My brother in law took two of them while pronghorn hunting around Antelope Oregon last year. From what I have been hearing, probably the largest population of ferrell pigs in Oregon is in that area and the ranchers absolutely hate them.
There is no tags to purchase and they can be hunted year round. In Oregon they are considered in the same predatory class as coyote.
Good Luck

Re: Ferel pigs?
Kiwanda Kid,
Would you send me an e-mail I have been trying to figure out how to get a crack at those pigs for over a year. If you were able to get some other leads on some landowners that would like a pig or two removed I would be willing to trade something.
Or if 22000 acres is big enough for one more even better.
Any help or oppurtunity would be great. Pleanty of Bow and rifle hunting experience along with six years in the USMC.
