Cleaning your rods.....
what does everybody use to clean your fishing rods of the eggs and fish scales?
I have heard rubbing alcohol, any others?
You just rub on with a towel?
any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Z

Re: Cleaning your rods.....
well, as of yet i have not had the fish-scale problem yet this year. when i do get my new rod from DS Custom later on and put some springer scales on it, (thank you Dave, you ROCK) ((ps., it's always good to compliment the guy building your rod-gratuitously)), then I think i'll wash that fish-killer with some warm, soapy water. i've heard from knowledgable sources that anything harder can damage the blank. also, check the archives, as i think there's been a thread or two in the past year on this.
-luis and the almost done 2nd thesis (i'm going to ace this one toooooo)

Take a shower with your rods. Works great and accomplishes a couple of things. My Loomis rods and I have showered together for years!!

Re: Cleaning your rods.....
Here is a segment off of tech tips on rod cleaning.
Something else to think about is keeping your rods clean. Egg cures have a ton of salt in them which, as you may know, is a corrosive not to mention the other chemicals involved in cures. Do your best to clean this stuff off. In the long run it will dry your cork out, damage blank finishes and corrode your metal components. By simply soaking your rod in warm water then using dish soap with a soft rag will do the trick. It may not get all of the dye out of your cork if you wait to long but it will help. Using a tooth brush on your guides and reel seat work well as well. Drying off your rods after the day is over is also a good idea especially after fishing in salt water.
The last thing I want to do when I come home from a long day on the river with little sleep is clean my rods “BUT!” If you rinse off your rods and dry them after every use, it will extend the life of your rod.

Re: Cleaning your rods.....
I just use a wet rag to wipe down the rod after each use. If it get really dirty, a little lemon joy works greats.

Re: Cleaning your rods.....
Mine stay caked. If I did ever clean them I would be afraid to use anything other than maybe joy and water just to make sure I'm not adding the smell of chemicals to my outfit.
I'm a $58 buzz IM7 guy. When and if the egg goo ever decomposes my rod I will simpy purchase another one and use the old one to whip my kids

Re: Cleaning your rods.....
spray heavily with Simple Green - let sit for a minute... wipe off... spray again (dont let sit this time) wipe off.... That should do it.
Follow up w/ a towel sprayed with armoral and wipe over the rod....
sparkly clean.
