Default Eugene area fishing

Considering a move to the Eugene area, from Nampa Idaho. I have been a member of Ifish for some time and respect the opinions of ifish members, (thought I may not belive ALL your fishing stories). What types of fishing and recreation are available in the Eugene area, say within 60 miles? I enjoy most any fishing, and have a 22' NW jet, set up for steelhead/salmon fishing in our rivers. I am considering selling the boat, simply because I believe it is too much for the skinny rivers in that area. (it weighs 6800 on the trailer).
Any advice would be appreciated.

There is a ton of opportunities within 60 miles of Eugene. I agree that boat is probably a bit large for the rivers, but the ocean is only an hour away.

I wouldn't sell it. You can troll for Fall Salmon in the Siusila. You are not far from the high lakes. It is only a two hour drive to the Willamett and a little longer to the Columbia. I also see no reason why you couldn't use it in the Rouge Bay for fall Salmon or even in the Rouge River for Springers. I know some of these spots are more than 60 miles but who lives within 60 miles of every place they want to fish?

Keep the boat!
You can fish Siuslaw bay and Winchester Bay. I like Winchester best. In fact why don't you just take me along and I'll show you the good spots . I might even have a seat in the driftboat sometime on the Mckenzie or Siletz.

Eugene is full of fishing fun. I started my spinner bussiness in Eugene and used to fish 5 days a week most of the time. Rather than a long rave post, pm me with any questions (where, when, how or anything)you have and I will give you all the details.

Keep the boat!! There's plenty of places you can use it in the Eugene area for steelhead, plenty of more places an hour away to take it for springers. Not only keep the boat, but buy a drift boat and take up flyfishing. The mckenzie and willamette are top quality trout rivers. Steelhead in both too!

If you're looking for a place to move to that has good fishing opportunities, you would be hard pressed to find someone who says eugene isn't on the list.

Lets not forget about the Umpqua system that is also within that range. The Umpqua system has spring/fall chinook, coho, winter/summer steelhead, sturgeon, shad, trout, striper bass (near estuary), and also excellent small mouth bass fishing.

Thanks for all the replies, kinda adds confidence that I have made the correct decision. I didn't think to mention that I am 1/2 partners in a fishrite drift boat, not sure which way that will split, but I do know which end of the oar to grab.
I will have to meet some of you once I get settled.

Moved here from Boise. Has not been a dissapointment.

Excellent fishing. A lot of people tend to fish close by (Willamette, Mckenzie) in summer, and move coastward for fall. Pretty much year-round action here. (Maybe that's part of why I sunk so much money into a house here.)
