Default Lab obediance trainers near Vancouver?

I just obtained a great lab rescue, and he is about 18 months old. In the future I would like to hunt for duck, goose, and uppland game birds with this dog, but first he needs to learn the basics. Can anyone recommend a good obediance school near Battle Ground, Washington where I can take my new dog?

Thanks alot,

Jeff

Jeff,

Are you looking for a trainer to take the dog and train it for you, or are you looking for a place to go and take classes with your dog?

Corey

Well, for the obeidance courses I will probally want to go with my dog. When it comes to training for hunting I'm open to suggestions, this will be my first ever attempt

It's not exactly close to you, but there is a great dog trainer in the metro area (for obedience). I have seen her in action with animals from killer whales (Keiko) to parrots (African Grays). Her name is Cynthia Marion and she started a Dog Day Care business in Tualatin a couple years ago call Doggone Fun Doggie Daycare. It's on Tualatin-sherwood road kind of near that newer stip mall.

She puts on classes in the evenings once in a while, and will come to your home for one-on-one training. She's a great person, and is great with animals Plus, her husband is a big fisherman.

She uses an interesting approach. She'll probably give you a book to read and have you pick up this little clicker. It works great. If you're dog has any "problem areas" she can help you with that too. I just can't say enough about her.

As far as training goes, just make everything associated with it real positive. Also, everything related to hunting builds of obedience training. An old timer told me hunting is supposed to be what your dog lives to do, make him want to get up every day do it. That's the best advice I ever received.

Jeff, in Brush Prairie, there is a place that I have seen that does train dogs. If you turn down the road that goes by the softball field, and go a few miles, it's on your left. I don't know any more than that about them, but have seen them working labs while I was looking for a place to duck hunt in that area. They do have a pond and I saw them working the dogs in it on retrieves. Hope this helps you some. It is local!

That sounds like Jill Holt. She hasn't done work for me but I have spoken with people that had good things to say about her.

Jeff,

How is Coal holding up for you. I hope he is putting on some wieght now that he has that little virus thing under control.

If you know of anybody looking I have a five year old black female that needs a home. She has some training and is fixed her family just doesn't have the time ofr her anymore. Some people you should be allowed to shoot I think.

I still have the chocolate female to she sure is sweet just not a hunter.

Dan!

You are correct the place in Brush Prairie is Jill Holt and I think the name is Countryside Kennels but I may be mistaken.
