Finally proof of the catch. C'mon Sledder. Tell us the story of your troll. Is that a cubs nose I see in the lower right?

The nose belongs to a hungry black lab. The bear measured 5' square. A sow with no cubs, about 4-5 years old. Hit with a single 7mm 160gr. bullet. Ran about 30 feet then crashed. Hit both lungs and severed aorta before exiting. Saw many more bears, some larger, but did not present a position for a good clean kill. Had a blast!! Was my first bear, hopefully not my last.

I bet the sardine wrap on the Kwikfish brought her in.

Idaho, isn't such a "stick in the mud" state when it comes to cougar and bear populations. It is legal in some units to hunt with bait and or dogs. The bear population in those units hasn't been depleted as some would think they would. My buddy "alwaze fishin"(Jeff) and I saw numerous bears on our first day hunting, all within 100yds. The day after I shot this bear I saw a very large black crossing the fairly well traveled, paved rd. in broad daylight. The bear population, has caused numerous complaints about problems regarding property damage of various sorts. Hunting over bait, or with dogs doesn't guarantee the hunt will be succesful or easy. I guess if you shot a cub, you could almost guarantee a succesful hunt. Shooting a cub still with mom, or shooting mom herself is illegal. Hopefully Oregon will change her ways, but I doubt it. This is just my opinion.

Now come on Scott it was only one shot?? I kind of remember there was on other shot. Oh I guess I should not have brought that up. but I dont think I have ever seen that many bears in one area in all the years I have been hunting.
Hey did you talk to him more about setting us up for next year??

Yea, I forgot to mention I missed a shot at a nice bear the first evening  I miss- judged the distance and probably shot over. I am trying to get a free hunt next year, looks good!

What part of idaho are you hunting? Did you use bait or dogs, or did you just spot and stalk? I would love to get a bear, but new at it. Went out a couple of times, but its hard to find bear in oregon. Have just hunted the coast. I haven't ventured off into eastern oregon for bear yet. How much does an out of state hunt cost you these days? Just curious.

Wander over to NE Oregon in August with binocs and a spotting scope, and look in drainages with water and cover. You would be very, very lucky to NOT see a bear!!

Scott, you missed a shot?  That must be a sure sign of getting old, and not practicing enough.

Do you have to check in the old team when you miss a shot, and buy them all a beer?

Thanks for the photos of the bear.

Hey, Scott, if it wasn't for my daughter's upcoming heart surgery, I probably would be making an August trip to Hat Point in Hells Canyon. But, I'll be kinda pre-occupied most of the summer. Maybe next year??

Roy, Snipers miss more often than any of us will admit. It was the only shot I have ever missed in my life, no honest it was.
Kyle, I will be thinking of your family this summer and praying all will go well.

I have to agree with Rogue about NE Oregon
I have seen more bear in the last 3 years elk hunting than I have in the 20+ I've been hunting.

I will have a bear tag with me this year.
