Labrador retriever rescue, need help placing. As some of you know I do Retriever rescue for the Portland area and when I see what I think is a good dog for hunting I will post here.
So here goes:
Currently I have an 18-month-old male. Name is Coal he is a big long lanky guy made for covering ground. A little on the thin side but not because he doesn’t get the grocery’s he needs he is just active. Loves to retrieve and really covers the ground fast. I have had him out to 100 yds so far on retrievers. I have also shot over him to check for gun shyness he was rock solid and continued his retrieve after looking arounda bit, surprisingly he never even lost his mark. He knows sit after he calms down and gets the edge off. He comes when called. He gets along great with my other labs sometimes gets in a little tissie with my stud dog but never any real dog fights just a little barking at him he has never bitten him so I feel comfortable putting them together. Coal is good to look at big head bright eyes and obviously a pure bred I do not have his papers the way he came into rescue prevented that. I heard he comes from top-notch field lines.
Coals training is coming along fast right now he is ready and willing to learn I just have to many rescues to spend a lot of time with him. I haven’t had him in water yet but I think he will take to that just fine. If you are looking for a dog that will be ready this year he is it. Spend 15 minutes a day three times a week and you will have a great dog ready for the upcoming season. Coal will have to be neutered but he is up to date on his shots. Neutering is a requirement by the rescue organization. Contact me if you are interested.
5-year-old chocolate female. This dog came to us due to a divorce and the family was going to put her down. She is the sweetest thing completely house broken and goes looking for the leash when it is time to go for walks. Loves to retrieve, sits, comes, downs, just a great companion. She is haveing assimilation issues with our cats but they are breaking her in, stupid things don’t know what run means but she hasn’t hurt them its like she corners them and then looks around like now what do I do. We keep a close eye on her because we have only had her for 24 hours. She is having a hard time adjusting to the pecking order with my older female so that maybe something to look for if you have another female dog in your home until they get to know one another. Her name is Decoy nice chocolate a little gray around her muzzle she is fixed. Decoy needs to be a house dog I think. I have had her in a run for only a few hours and she thought that the world was coming to an end. Her perfect day is laying on the couch with one of my teenagers watching a good movie or perhaps a mariners game (Go Mariners).
Any help in finding good quality homes for these dogs would be helpful. They are both worth saving and will give a couple of families many good years to come. Coal will make a good hunter or companion. Decoy will make a good companion probably not a hunter though but who knows I really haven't evaluated her potential in that area yet.
Dan!
