Default Anti-guns at it again............

I just had this sent to me, thought I'ld pass it on.........

AGS Targets Gordon Smith in Campaign of Lies

The anti-gun lobby that calls itself "Americans for Gun Safety" (AGS)-in
spite of the fact that it has exactly zero members and no gun safety
programs-continues to promote attacks on traditional American gun shows by
using a mixture of lies, deception, and the anti-gun movement's shameless
strategy of exploiting the war on terrorism to promote attacks on the Second
Amendment.

The latest AGS attack involves a radio ad campaign in Oregon that targets
that state's pro-gun U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (R), allegedly because he has
not embraced the AGS-approved McCain/ Schumer/Lieberman bill (S. 890) that
seeks to close down gun shows as we know them today. This radio ad mirrors
print ads AGS has run that attempt to exploit our nation's concerns over
terrorism by trying to link the events of September 11 to gun shows. The ad
mentions last year's case involving a felon in Michigan, linked to
terrorists, who was caught, prosecuted, and convicted for violating a number
of existing firearm laws. The AGS ad conveniently fails to mention that S.
890, the current centerpiece of its legislative agenda, would not have
stopped this felon from doing what he was convicted of doing. It was the
simple enforcement of existing laws that caught him and sent him to prison.

We can expect AGS to target other legislators in the weeks to come, and
the pro-gun community should rally behind the victims of AGS's false
advertising campaign. Contact Senator Gordon Smith and thank him for not
supporting the AGS assault on gun shows, and urge him to remain opposed to
any attempts to shut down these traditional American events. Sen. Smith can
be reached by calling (202) 224-3753. You can find additional contact
information by using the NRA-ILA "Write Your Reps" tool at

2 sides to every story

If they really had "no members" no one would be worried, eh?

Unfortunately, in this discussion, no-one lets you take the middle ground. I've always thought that this group veered toward the middle, in a responsible sense. Not that I agree with their stances, but the tact they have taken is well-received by many of the general public.

This group does not take the middle! They take guns. A compromise for them is a step toward their goal.

Please point out the "gun-taking" part, I seem to have missed that.

What makes you believe this group wants to take away your gun?

'Cause you read it in some NRA "propaganda" ?

Really - I'm just trying to learn, here, don't attack me. Enlighten me.

Part of the reason I switched to the Democratic Party. I was raised Republican, in Republican country, and still generally vote that way. The problem is, the term "liberal Republican" is somewhere between rapist and terrorist in the Republican Party's viewpoint. There's lots of people with the label "Conservative Democrat", and that's something I can live with.

Same way with the gun issue. There's the NRA(where I used to be a member and still contribute now and then), and then there's the rest of the world that is "Against them". No middle ground, not even anything just barely leaning toward the middle. Yes, it polarizes many people to conduct business this way. However, it really irks the average Joe-Bloe on the street to hear "If you don't support the right to own guns..any guns..assault rifles..bazookas..then you're a liberal, gun-stealing Democrat!!!"

I have never seen a group that was as naive about stuff as the gun lobby is.
Not that I'm anti-gun or anything, I own several. I'm just not active in the NRA or anything.

What I mean by naive is they hear a rumor from someone and it's popping up on a msg board on the internet and all of a sudden there's a bunch of people boycotting a companny based on a rumor. Rather than investigating the facts.
A good example was the Dell scenario on Bob's board not to long ago.

I should make a note here that I didn't check out the above info.
Just wanted to let people know not to jump on the bandwagon until all the facts are in.
Don't want to look like an idiot blocking I-5 in Seattle or anything.
