Default Crab out of Depoe?

Dogs,

I'm thinking about trying something different this weekend and running out of Depoe for bottom fish -- I would like to throw the pots out as well, but have no clue where to place them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

If you go North past Government Point and then tuck in to about 6-7 fathoms there is
some good sandy bottom where the crabs crawl pretty good. Just make sure you don't get
in too close for the swell conditions.

Another spot is just south of the bouy line in about 14 fathoms ... but you will need
at least 21 fathoms of line to drop that deep (125+ feet of rope).

Good luck. Most of the crabbing right out of Depoe Bay is a deep water game ...

I can't help with where to put them, but maybe I can help with where NOT to put them!

We crabbed there about a month ago, last time we had a chance to get out. Set 6 pots outside of the Siletz mouth, three pots in close and three pots out far. Picked up only a few keepers after several hours, plus a big octopus. Then we set them outside of Depoe, not too far from the markers but on the north side, and got nothing. Rocky bottom.

What we did discover was a good ling spot off the mouth of the siletz, offshore maybe a mile or two. There were a bunch of charter boats sitting on the hole. Not as many rockfish as closer to the bay, but bigger lings. I don't have ##s for it but we caught a couple nice ones there.
