Default Deadwood

Any Deadwood fans out there? What do you think of season 2?

I've been watching them on Demand (comcast) trying to catch up. I love the show

One of the best shows on TV.

I need Sandy River Ron to chime in. He's the real #1 Deadwood fan.

Outstanding program! In a field of mediocrity. I'm down to 3 things to view on TV. Deadwood, Cubs baseball and Frontline.
At least the TV doesnt burn up much time anymore.

I watched two episodes....I gotta tell you, I honestly thought it was stupid. I love westens too. But, I got tired of the F bomb every other sentence. I'm not a goody-two-shoes or anything, it just seems WAY outta place for a western. The characters are kinda easy and simplistic.
The first episode I saw was when the dark bar owner guy found out where a girl was being held. Then he went to intimidate her and hurt her. The weird calamity jane woman was suppossed to protect her, obviously she was not very good at that and emotionally she was over acted......wow, I saw the entire episode in about 15 seconds unfold in my head BEFORE it happened. I don't know, it just didn't grab me. I'll stick to the Soprano's or The Shield.

Deadwood is clearly a show that you either love or hate. No middle ground. When I started watching it I was offended by all the obscene language. But then I realized that it is a show that re-creates the real life of Deadwood in its pre-U.S. territory days, and the occupants were a dark and seamy bunch. Then I started seeing the humor in the show, and that has cracked me up ever since. We even re-named the Jack Russell. She used to be "Nikki", but her new name is "Yalittle !#@$&*$#?!".

An interesting aspect is that the actors are not given the script until a few hours before shooting begins. Then they are encouraged to adlib as they go. Makes for some wonderful and funny stuff.

The show's great but I find the language a distraction and I don't think it's a true representation of how people talked back then, I think it's done to reel in viewers who want to believe it's realistic. It is, however, a great western in a day when there are very few around.

Actually the language is thought by historians to be accurate --- http://www.thetruthaboutdeadwood.com/

Yeah, I agree the language is accurate as far as content goes but I've read articles that say the amount it's used is excessive. I've also seen cases made for it's accuracy, so I guess it's just my gut feeling that they over do it. It does set the tone for the town though.
