Lance Armstrong announces retirement
July 24th will be the last day of Lance Armstrong's professional cycling career, with the conclusion of the Tour de France. Lance's cycling career has been stellar, matched only by his dedication the cancer survivor community. As a man and as an athlete, he's a guy that fills me with pride. I celebrate his career and hope he is as successful and happy in all his future activities.

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
Ditto, Pete. One heck of a competitor, and a great role model. Has fought his way through many "doping" accusations without a hitch. Hard work and a drive to win aren't respected by many these days, they automatically assume performance enhancing drugs are the key.

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
Lance is the man, no doubt about that. His retirement will give him more time to focus on other, uh, accomplishments:

Hmmmm.....can you call divorcing your wife that saw you thru a life and death situation an accomplishment? Still, a fine athlete

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
I don't know what happened in his home throughout his first marriage, but I do know that things sometimes don't work out without anyone being at fault.

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
Well...(moral convictions concerning marriage said but not typed here). Things haven't always gone well in my house, but I just figured my girls needed thier daddy more than they needed a support payment. I'm in a bad mood, so I'll just go away for a while

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
Ahhhhh, give him a few years. He'll pull a Michael Jordan and "come-out" of retirement. Bank on it.....

oh boy...looks like Sheryl is the Yoko of cycling....
I think he could have squeezed out a few more victories. Hopefully he goes out on top. Lots of respect for the guy.

Re: Lance Armstrong announces retirement
I'm not saying he dopes but it smells awfully fishy that a guy beats cancer to become better than he ever was before the cancer. I think it's probably just a matter of time before we see physical proof of Armstrong's alleged doping. I don't have anything against the guy personally, it's just when athletes are that quick, it raises suspicions. There are plenty of athletes that dope, we just don't hear about the ones that get away with it.
Look at Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis during the 1988 Olympics. They were 2 very fast sprinters and both tested positive for banned substances. Johnson was stripped of his medal but not Lewis. A bit unfair don't you think?
