Default I found it!!!

Here's the ideal boat to go fishing in. A used Vietnam era river boat, called a PBR (Patrol Boat River), built by Uniflite.

Mount the 50 cal machine gun on the bow and you can keep lurkers from following you around. With a pair of original Jimmy 6-71 turbo aftercooled diesels it should do better than 30 knots. Can you see coming down the Columbia around the bend at Sauvie Island? "Avast yee ragboats!!!" A perfect boat to fly the Salty Dog Burgee on.

You don't want the 50 cal, you want a repeating harpoon gun that shoots harpoons with floats attached. Then you go out to the tuna grounds and look for jumpers and start shooting harpoons at 20 rounds a minute! Just imagine the cost of "ammo"! But if you're a good shot, you could fill up the fish box in a minute or two.

I say keep the fifty cal. if the tuna aren't hitting you could always raid other boats and rob passing freighters.

Funny you mention that Robert. While I was boat shopping a ways back, there was a boat for sale in the Seattle area that was very similar to this or maybe even the same hull. It was a government Uniflite, nicely converted & finished off as a sportfishing boat, but still had the 50 cal gun mount forward of the pilot house. It had a single 871 but with the twin turbo....for a whopping 550 hp. The navy / army really knew how to hot-rod a Detroit.

Cool boat! Anyone heard of a Harco 40? This was supposedly another pint-sized warboat that had an I-beam running along the keel and a couple of humongous diesels for power.

Mark, they had lots of practice. 671 was the power of choice for just about all military small boats.

Even 'Victory' has a pair of 671's

Must be a reason for this.

Oh yea...it has been referred to as "the engine that won WW II."

On the landing craft, they would back off on the governor so it would run full-rack (wide open). If they burned the engine up on the way to the beach, so be it since it was a one-way trip.

Hey, that hull looks familiar.
My edition did not come stock with the 50 cal, must have been an option.
They did come with twin 671N'S as diesel option.
At 310hp the torque of the 671N was unequal to anything avaiable, proly still is.

Hey Tom- if you cut that cabin and flybridge off like this one it would be a lot easier to dock in the wind!
