Default Late Season at Its Best

I don't know what the rest of the hunters are doing but I can tell you the few of us left had a great day today. The Island sounded quiet but on some days we can't hear anybody else shoot even though they are almost next door. I left at 1 PM
and the birds were still all over the place. Don't get me wrong we did not limit out but we had a barrel of fun. We refused to shoot cackies
and held out for lessers and commons. What a kick to watch the birds float into our fields only 30 yards or so from the blinds. Just the wrong size geese. We have been doing poorly of late with the bulk of the birds taken on the pass at close to maximum range. Not that much fun! But today made up for in spades. So call your buddy and get out there. They think the seasons over or something and your field needs to be defended. Wouldn't it be great if we could just figure out why they suddenly decide to fly so low after weeks of
flying at the same altitude as the airlines?

Yep, I went dog training down there this PM, I did put the gun in the truck but didn't take it out into the field. They were flying pretty low right over my head. I could of thrown a bumper and hit them.

Jim & Scott
The NW special zone season lasts until March 3rd. We are allowed to hunt from 7:30 am til 4:00 pm on Sat. Sun. Wed. & Thur. We are limited to dark geese only. Which of course is why the 2000 plus snow geese now decide it's time to check us out almost every hunt day. Sauvie Island is where I am shooting. There are lots of geese in the valley and everything on the west side of I-5 is in the zone. There is a sizeable greater or common population that normally hangs out around Scappose Bay. They are now on the island and acting dumber than the Dusky geese...Oh darn

Hey Bigshark,
Sounds like fun. Did you end up getting a new puppy? I am going to try for the advanced hunter educational program in WA, hopefully I will be able to have a longer season.

Got drawn for another late season hunt between Shillapoo and Ridgefield for Sunday. The AHE hunts rock. I'll remember the camera this time.
