Late season goose hunt. Any advice
I drew for a hunt this upcoming weekend on a farm in between Ridgefield NWR and Shillapoo W A, across from Willow Bar Islands? Anybody ever hunt this area? Anybody wanna bring some more decoys and watch a hunt, maybe call for a novice? I am hunting the Fazio farm just past the sand company.
thanks in advance,
Andy

Re: Late season goose hunt. Any advice
Andy, You may be glad to know that there are a lot of big Commons using Willow Bar the past few days. Hope they move your way AFTER  I get into them. Lots of geese in Browning and they may come out over us as they have in past. If they do, we will probably blow those commons off by shooting at the Tavies. Which would probably send them over to you. We will get the little ones and you'll get the biggies. Is this what they mean when they say I'm going to be "Enroned" again?

Ended up with three! 2 cacklers and a tav. Man, were they ever up high. Next time I'm bringing the 10. I can still hear the geese squawking, I swear I saw 5,000 geese today. Hunted just north of Frenchman's bar.

We got some shooting on Sauvie across from Frenchman's Bar but no hits. We had several hundred landing just out of reach from a decent hiding spot. I have to admit that finally there seemed to be some geese around for te first time this year, just not ideal weather on Sun.

We also saw about 100 cranes. Not sure what specific species, first time I ever saw them. Had a nice flock go over me at about 40 yards, weird whistling to their wings.
We heard some shooting from you folks south of the border (actually west of us), but if you heard anybody opening up on them sounding like an antiaircraft battery, that was us.

Re: Late season goose hunt. Any advice
I believe those would be Sandhill cranes. I think they are closely related to the teradactyl, at least from the call they make.
There are seasons on them in some places. I understand that they come down like a falling lawnchair when you hit one. Supposed to have tasty drumsticks.
You've got me thinkin' that maybe I should hunt geese this weekend, or fish sturgeon, or steelies, or springers or maybe sleep in.....
