Default Turkey Chokes

What choke do you use? Have you bought one of the specialty chokes or just use standard chokes?

I have been using my regular full choke and it seems to have a good tight pattern at 40 yards. I would like to try one of the specialty chokes but don't want to put out 50 - 75 bucks for some thing that may not make my gun pattern any better.

What are your ideas about these things? Turkey season is just around the corner!

My Winchester came with an extra full choke, so that's what I use one, and haven't missed any birds yet  If your full choke has a tight pattern at 40 yds, I wouldn't change a thing. All the shots I've taken have been 30 yds or less. How does the pattern look at 20 and 30 yards? The only thing you might try experimenting with is some different loads. I found Federal 3" #4's to be the best from my gun.

Rauly I have considered the same, and my factory full works well. Another thought on the specialty chokes though. Many of them were developed for better pattern density, not just tighter patterns. Additionally some of them were specifically developed for steel loads which is not always required for turkey. If you look at "turkey chokes" you may find what you are looking for. You can also see if you can find a friend who has one that will fit your gun and take it for a test drive just for a point of referenece.

Also you may try going up to size 6 shot if you are shooting 4's and that will give you some additional density, especially if you go with Hevi Shot or one of the other non toxic's. I shoot 3.5" 6's and they haven't let me down yet. Let me know if you pick one up and how it turns out.
