Default The Last Haarraah

Well, tomorrow is the last day of duck season. I'll be out there hoping to get a few birds with GetBit. Good luck to all that go for the last day and now it is time to start planning for next season. Oh wait a minute, we got to shoot some turkeys first. I can't wait to go. Gobble Gobble

5 guys, three dogs and 20 ducks. All in all, a successful day. Didn't lose a bird, and my dog showed up her mom and brother.

Six guys, three dogs, two geese and eight ducks. Not many ducks moving that I saw.

Five hunters four dogs(two too many). Two snow geese, two taverners, five greenheads, one bull sprig, six teal and an empty flask. All had fun and did you stop and have the free breakfast at the Decoy Saloon? They said they wanted to say thanks for the business hunters. Darn nice of them in my book.

1 guy, no dog, 12 mallards, 1 widgeon, 1 bull pintail. Easily my best weekend of the season. The bonus was that 2 of the greenheads were sporting jewelry!

Last Haarraah? I hate you guys. Mine was more of a last Haarumph! :depressed:

Not that I should get any sympathy. For some reason I had convinced myself that the season ended next weekend. I'd even made plans w/ a friend to hunt some private ponds down south. Guess that won't be happening.

Long story short, I get up w/ a bad headache from the night before and TRY to go steelhead fishing. Somehow, I do hook one and loose it, but end up going back to bed after about half an hour. I finally get up for good, check ifish and see all these reports. Consult the regs and &*#$^%$#%!!!! Grab some dekes and sit out in a flooded field till dusk with my coffee and tylenol. 1 hunter + no dog and 0 ducks. I did take one shot at some passing hoodies, but the pounding in my ears after that one really convince me not to shoot again at any merganzers.

So, some very important lessons learned today for next season. More time to fish till spring I guess. Bring on the turkeys!

4 hunters 1 dog and 2 ducks. Can't wait for the last NW Goose Season to start! We have been killing more geese than ducks this year. THEN look out Mr. Gobbler your next. Yelp.yelp.yelp...cluck...cluck BANG!!!

With all the guys on this site there realy isn't a safe place in the NW for the wildlife. Unless they are close to me.

Well for me it was 1 hunter, 1 cold hungry tired 6 year old and no ducks (missed two) at Sauvie . It was a fun duck season and it was the first full season for my son to go out on almost every trip.

For me it was one hunter, one dog, no shots. Lots of snow and frozen water. There are a few geothermal seeps and ponds that a few birds will drop into but not on Saturday. However, Mt Emily is covered with snow and the contrast between the timber and the snowpack was sure pretty against the sunset. And that almost quarter moon against the blue sky....can't ask for better. The day before was spent on the Grande Ronde catching steelhead and watching bighorn sheep and both mule deer and whitetails......plus about 50 turkeys in an apple orchard right next to the road. Pinch me somebody and wake me up.
