Default Reputible Chesepke breeders?

I need a girlfriend for my Chesepeke. I was wondering if any of you knew a good breeder with mid-sized dogs. I don't want a 100+ lb adult. Mine ways 75lbs and that is big enough. He's as tough or tougher than any 100lb + lab out there, plus hes a convient stowaway size for the boat.

Can't help you but you can help me I think. Tell me about your dog....I have very limited experience with the breed and I want to know if they are as hard to train as rumored. You must think they are good or you wouldn't be trying to find another. How much training have you put into him.....what can he do....how old is he....I have had labs, springers and shorthairs. This year I will aquire a new retriever. Hope you find the dog you are looking for.

T.J is one year old. chesepekes are a different breed completely from labs. hence you must train them differently. Yes they are a bit bullheaded, but my lil boy trained easily and has amazing natural instinct. Mine atleast is very eager to please. I can still vividly remember him as a 4 month old pup smimming upstream with his dummy fighting the current for 5 minutes on the north fork of the lewis. He is agreeable with everyone when I am around. But you can't touch a thing in my truck or my house when I'm not there. Also they tend to be very jealous of other dogs with regards to your affection. With the terrible season we are having he's only retrieved 50 or so birds. But he was swimming down cripples a 100 yds plus on his first outing in tillamook bay! He is a decent upland dog who basically taught himself. Everyone I have talked to with chesepekes hasn't had any complaints. But you have to love them. They respond much better to the cold shoulder than a beating though.

WRO,

I too have a Female Chessy that's pushing 90+ pounds and is ALL muscle. We barely feed her. But I'll tell you what, they are allot of work and definately, will take on someone they are NOT familiar with...such as the neighbor next door, or the Gas Company Guy....whatever. They can be very protective, especially if I'm not around. So, be aware.

As far as training...females, from what I've heard, are a bit easier to train, but forget it if your looking for a Laid-Back dog.. These dogs are High Intensity at all times and Smarter than heck! We got our dog from a breeder in Spokane, WA. A friend flew out there to check him out and he came back very impressed with the conditions, papers, etc. I have the name somewhere around here...If your interested, I'll dig it up & get it to you.

Talk Soon,

Scott
