Default Ukiah elk hunt

This is my first post and I love the site. Just wanted to know if anybody hunted Ukiah this year for elk. Our party had cow tags this year and got skunked but we had a great time. Weather was not the best for hunting. Did see alot of deer, I saw one real nice 4x4 and two other forkies. Does had at least one or two fawns with them. My dad saw about 10 elk opening morning but couldn't get a shot in the pine reprod. Just wanted to know if anybody else hunted Ukiah this year and if you were sucessful. We were in the Bowman creek area.

We hunted the desolation late cow hunt and got skunked as well. it seemed that the elk were pretty shot up and spooky. I saw a couple of herds in the refuge outside ukiah on the way home after thanksgiving. I talked to some guys whose party killed 7 spikes in ukiah this year though.

This hunt was during Thanksgiving week. I think that with all the pressure from earlier seasons the elk were widely scattered and spooky. 2 years ago we had spike only tags and saw cows every day. I like the Ukiah unit except for all of the roads. I like more of a remote hunt but I can't complain. It was just me and the old man so I think a larger party would have better success?
