pflueger reels
I am in the market of a couple good reels and I have always used penn 320 and daiwa 50h for sturgeon, I ran across pflueger reels, has anybody used them, are they compareable to penns, the price is much cheaper
thank you

Re: pflueger reels
I have a pflueger trion I love it. I have not used any other reels by them but I do know pflueger is oneof the oldest names in reel manafacturers.

Re: pflueger reels
I have a pflueger trion president. Its has a few more bearings than the regular trion. I would buy a curado or castaic before a pflueger the president model. For a 99 bucks the regular trion is a pretty good bet. They are good reals, but there are better ones out there if you want to spend the money.

Re: pflueger reels
I know several people who bought them two years ago during winter steelheading. Everyone of them were returned to Fishermans for Curado's. All started out well. But after some use developed casting and drag problems. They may have worked these problems out I don't know.

Re: pflueger reels
I run 6 of the President spinning reels. Smoothest reel I've fished for the money. I still use Shimano Curado for my baitcasters as I have heard the Pflueger baitcasters had some issues with their drags. Great spinning reels though.

Re: pflueger reels
My kid bought a trion. Nothing but troubles. Dirt and crud seem to affect these reels much more than a curado.

Re: pflueger reels
I had the same problem with my only pfleuger baitcasting reel. Drag goes out at the worst possible time. I thought I was saving a few bucks but definitely stick to the Curado now.

Re: pflueger reels
I've got two Trion casting reels, and for $100 they're not too bad. However, I would definitely spend the extra $20 and get a Curado instead. I've owned about a half dozen Curados, and without a doubt they're a better built, more dependable reel for the money. There's quite a bit of hype about the new Presidents, and yes, they seem smooth, but unfortunately they're not that "proven" yet, whereas the Curado has made a name for itself as a top baitcaster for the money.
