Default E-Tec, A new NASA outboard

I received a link to this from a NASA e-zine. Looks like a pretty cool new outboard being marketed by Evenrude.

"By adopting the high-strength, wear-resistant aluminum alloy from NASA for its latest product line, BRP has created a boater’s dream: the first outboard motor engine that will not require oil changes, winterization, spring tune-ups, or scheduled maintenance for 3 years of normal recreational use"

Folllow the link:

Normal recreational use should read three weekends a year.

Nice press release, I hope the motors are as good as the article says they are.

They got some great commercials if nothing else! Very spendy motor as well.

The NASA alloy greatly improves piston durability because it is 2.5 times stronger than conventional cast aluminum pistons at high temperatures and can be produced with a material cost of less than $1 per pound.
I can't find Alumimum for less than $3.50 a lb and it is just regular 6061 or 7075. I find that a little hard to believe coming from Nasa.

They have the greatest TV add running now. Makes me want to buy a bass boat and put on a thong.

Sorry but there is only one man I know of that can pull off wearing a thong..............................
.
.
.

and that's Miss Behaven!

Only Mel can pull off an outfit that consists of an eye patch, pink feather boa, a whip, and logging boots complete with spikes, and top it off with an official Salty Dog thong!

Good article! Makes me want to rush out and buy one. I wonder how much lighter they are than a four stroke?

My neighbor here in Baja just got a 90 hp about a month ago
for his 22' panga. He really likes it and touts the fuel efficency. A nice looking motor. He paid 8 grand for it here.

I think these motors will do well. Mainly from the gas milage and reliability standpoint. Gas milage is going to become more and more important. Lets face it gas ain't getting cheaper until the demand goes down.
