S. Oregon waterfowl report
Okay, I'm back. Klamath Falls still has plenty of ducks and tons of geese. Not too windy, high 37 lows in the 20's, overcast, but very little new snow. I ended up hunting on a 1600 acre gun club just south of Miller Island. Lots and lots of geese out there. The standing water in the tules we hunted was frozen pretty thick, but the Klamath River and Lake Euwana are still nice and open. Lots of ducks rafting on them, just need a little wind to get them up. Mostly divers (goldeneye, bufflehead), but we did also shoot some pintail and gadwall. Saw enough green heads too, just didn't connect.
I was also in Ashland for a few days and managed to get a few ducks and geese there too. Mostly mallards and wigeon. Wind was a big problem in the evenings. I can't tell you how many birds tried to set into my spread only to be blown off by a gust. Got 3 geese jump shooting this morning and shot a bufflehead after about the 17th time she buzzed me. I wasn't going to but...she had it coming. Just made real sure it wasn't a ruddy before I shot.
We'll see how the eastside is tomorrow morning. I'm back down in Roseburg for New Years followed by duck hunting around Bandon for 3 days. Sweet. Good luck guys.
