Default Willy report Sat 4/9

My son and I trolled herring between downtown and Swan Island for quite a few hours today, and there wasn't much going on. We released a really nice big native, saw one fish caught and heard of just a few others. One guy came up with the line I usually hear: "Ya shoulda been here yesterday!"

I trolled the harbor for an hour and saw nothing. Then I trolled from the I-5 bridge to Bachelor island. I heard of a few fish below Frenchman's and marked a few in that area, but didn't mark many anywhere else. And in 6 hours I only saw one furry critter. There sure was a crowd in the Willamette ... lots of sturgeon fishing going on. It's probably a good thing the sheriff wasn't out, since more than a few people didn't seem to care where in the shipping channel they set their anchor. Tough day to run a barge train today!

Bunga, you are one of the lucky ones. Were you in a boat with a center consol and your son wearing a PFD? If so, our boats passed in front of the restraunt and you said you had released one earlier. I was in a NR with top and alone today.

I have been in the harbor both days and only saw one fish caught. I did here of a couple others but not good enough to make me wanna go back very soon. I also trolled herring and some prawns yesterday without results. It will happen for us just keep going.

I anchored up at about 11:30 today and missed one bite and nailed a nice 34" gator. At least I had a jerk on both ends of the rod. Decied I would go home and mow before it started to rain.

Pete, You gotta be good if you only give it one hour before you hoist anchor and move that far. I wish I had followed. I think the show is still in the Columbia.

Snap, I have a couple spots I know well ... if I don't mark fish in them, my attitude flags. I don't like trolling aimlessly through the harbor, especially when the water clarity is marginal and I know the big river is in better shape.

Didn't I see you sitting on the hook in the big river?

My neighbor and I also fished the harbor today. 8:30 till 1:30. Caught one nice 15lb keeper @11:30.Only action we had or saw. Counted ourselves very lucky...stayed pretty much above the Alaska ferry to white tanks where we marked the most fish. The fishing gods and sun shined on us today.

I trolled the Willy today with my Dad. I picked up a nice 15 lb Springer at 7:00am. Then trolled for another 5+ hours without a thing. I only saw one other caught. I feel blessed.

Snapshot: Yeah, we felt lucky, and yes, that was us (I had my pfd on under the big orange raincoat). Nice to talk with you out there.

Mossy, was that you that helped the guy out at the boat ramp when his trailer was falling apart? Nice job!

Blessed we are, a beautiful day, and we were fishing instead of being at work or watching the stupid tv....

I was under the impression that you can anchor in the shipping channel as long as you move when a ship or tug was coming ??
