Dang! I was there 2 months and could not find a charter. Of course I only had 1 day off a week.
I like these quotes from the site...

...
Quote:
Success first came to Donegal when Alan Glanville caught two Bluefin aboard Brian McGilloway's boat "Suzanne" in September 2000. This proved the viability of the fishery, all that was needed was patience and time and a lot more research
...

...
Quote:
Bluefin Tuna fishing is unlike any other Sea Angling activity. A huge amount of patience and perseverance is required, however the sight of Giant Bluefin smashing the surface feet away from the boat will make you want to come again and again and again.

Give yourself the experience of a lifetime

...

And of course...

Quote:
Q. If I take a charter for Bluefin Tuna am I guaranteed to catch a Tuna ?

A. There are no guarantees when fishing any species ! Bluefin Tuna are one of the fastest and most elusive fish on the planet, however the chances of seeing Bluefin are very high with large numbers of fish observed on a daily basis from August to mid November. Strike rates are fairly high and improving all the time as experience with these fabulous fish increases.

Whooo Hoooo! And to think, DipSea Diver and I have been planning a trip to Ireland for a year now. Guess I'd better pack my tuna clothes.

Bet they'll like that at the check-in!

I really like this idea....the "tuna ramp" or as it might be called up here, the "VW ramp". Who's gonna build one??

What's interesting about that ramp idea......During an OCEAN meeting Scott Heppel was explaining the physiology of fish vertebrae, and how fish are designed to be suspended in water ("weightless"), and what happens when you pick up a fish by the tail (vertebrae separation). So it is reasonable to assume that sliding a big tuna up a ramp might help maintain the flesh quality somehow, especially in the eyes of a Tokyo Market fish buyer.

OK I'm reaching here but part of being a tunaholic is giving each other false justification for getting more hardware on the boat!!

Hmmm, the skipper I had never mentioned TUNA! was around the area.

Of course we were planning on fishing for shark and got blown off the water. TWICE!! Three months apart and the weekend we were booked ended up being the worst weather for the month both times.

Fishing in Ireland is a blast. The people were friendly and the costs low. Well in 2000 anyway.
